Used these for the first time since buying them over a year ago. Funny, I was just thinking the other day that they are wasting valuable roof rack space and I was also wondering if the sun beating on them is ruining them. It took me longer to remove them from my roof tie down system than to...
Stave Lake, British Columbia.
Sadly, as beautiful as the area is - the partiers have pretty much ruined the place. There is garbage everywhere, debris, broken vehicle parts, broken bottles and nails. Nails everywhere. Sigh.

Yes... this is camp. All setup. Keeping it simple! Now, I would have deployed the awning and a chair, but rain was in the forecast for the next morning, and I hate putting away the awning wet. I also had a tree stump to sit on here, so no need for chair. Currently roaming around British...
Went here.... Stave Lake "Mud Flats", British Columbia.

This Jeep rolled in solo, headed straight for the mud and ended up like this rather quickly.

It's hard for me to comment (with accuracy) about the heat. I think it helped a bit -- but because I have gear on the roof (previously the roof top tent, and now cargo box and other stuff), the direct sunlight is mostly blocked. There is a definite improvement in noise reduction though.
"Argh". I should have went to Expo East. I'm currently jobless and homeless, so all that works out quite well for making the adventure... But, I ended up in Vancouver area on my current travels. Spent too much time procrastinating about making the trip back East and now it's too late to make...
In the grand scheme of things, it's not really a lot of mud.. but I was stuck and slowly sinking - and for someone that has little interest in playing around in the 'mud', I was eager to get out. It took a bit, but another rig and some creative winching pulled me out. Word of advice, watch...
A lot of people find the Canadian Prairies boring because there is so much wide open space. I find that intriguing and it adds to the interest factor.

Sometimes it just takes a couple of simple things to make all the difference in organizing and outfitting your overland rig.
Here are a couple of low cost, simple add-ons in the VagabondExpedition Jeep that I love - simple, but very functional.
Out of necessity was some new fog lights. Opted for some 'low cost almost no-name brand' off Amazon. So far, so good, but they needed a couple of 'fixes' right out of the box.
On the wish list is a Fox wing type awning so I can cover my cooking space in the back.
Camped along the Fraser River in BC and made breakfast in the back. Figured it would make a good storage layout shot.

Yep.. this is camp. Since my 'back to basics' approach, there is no more tent to setup. I park, slide the drivers seat forward and can be in bed within seconds.

Apologies.. hadn't been in this thread for a bit! But yes, done that road a few times. There is a nice little camp site along the way.. I think they charged $10-$15 per night. I'd only ever seen one other person setup in it whenever I've passed the area. Otherwise, options are limited as it's...
Since I parted ways with the Tepui Roof Top Tent (blog post on why), I needed to improve the inside sleeping situation.
I talk a bit about the base sleeping platform and for comfort - window screens!
Next video I'll show you more specifically about the bed construction.
We replaced the tailgate table a while back to this newer, solid table with slide out cutting board.
As much as I liked the molle based table I used to have, this one is much better. Check it out, I think you'll agree!
Not so much a DIY project in itself, but this stuff is a must have in your tool kit for your diy projects. Use it to keep awnings tightly rolled up, tool bags closed, tie items to your roll bars, the options are limitless. It is both strong and temporary so you can move things around, and open...
