If it means there is a place to land for a hot shower and shore power, the difference of $6 isn’t going to kill my 4,000+ mile road trip in a vehicle that gets around 14-15 mpg fully loaded at highway speed. I will have probably spent close to $500 just in gas to get there.
The alternative is...
Finally got to try the inverter box and stainless steel grill during an overnight New Years trip. Both worked better than expected. Ending voltage was about where I expected for the light load of our trailer and the grill didn’t collapse into the mud.
Have you tried the TPWD park app? The state parks aren’t undeveloped federal lands in Utah but they make good weekend trips to test out gear.
Diversify your interests instead of focusing solely on the off road wheeling side.
Throw in a mountain bike, kayak or fishing pole and most parks have...
Old town expedition is an awesome canoe if you can find one. It is probably the most stable canoe I’ve ever had. For solo stuff I prefer kayaks, just be sure to get the right one for what you want to do. There are many specialized shapes that do some things better than others.
I’d stick to factory size or an extremely common size so in the event of a catastrophic failure, a replacement can be found. Rural tire shops are not known for their selections of boutique options.
This game has many different names and methods to play but it’s my favorite when the weather is crummy and there’s no Internet. Board with little wells, copper coated bbs, magnetic grabbers, vacuum sealed rule page that can be ignored is we feel like changing things up. I tried beads but they...
IIRC, there were North American nomadic tribes that would plant things along their route so that when they returned to that campground there would be useful herbs the next time they were there.
Buy an acre here and there and go about it the proper way. I would not recommend guerrilla gardening...
My parents do a mother ship setup keeping the main truck/trailer off a forest road and use the horses for exploration. Definitely keeps you from getting stranded with a heavy rig broke down or stuck in a place nobody can get it out of.
See if this will exempt you from having to mow while also doing something that will actually be beneficial to nature.
Our vegetable garden yield also increased from more pollinators and pest predators.

An option that might work for you is a roof hatch/pop up for extra height. Almost did that for our mini camper before swapping the cots for a proper mattress on the floor of the trailer.
Also, if you don’t have coolers and water jugs to hold things down, I would carry a small stack of good 3 gallon buckets that I’d fill with sand and then top off with ocean water.
I used to use old fishing rods since they had a bit of give to them. I would also use a rod holder and either drop the pole in directly or tie off.
Also look into the screen instead of solid tarps I’d just for shade.
People sell farm fresh eggs all over the place and if you time your travels and errands with local farmer’s markets, you’ll still have fresh eggs routinely. Buying a dozen here and there from locals is better for everyone in the long run.
If you aren’t gone for a month at a time, our birds...
