    Bike rack????

I use a Hollywood rack. I assemble it with the hitch adapter for my wife’s car or remove the adapter and replace with a 4 ft conduit when mounting the bikes in the bed. I’ve got thousands of miles including rough rocky terrain and washboards.

Gear on outside vehicle while on highway

I’m also in the camp of keep it inside if possible. I’m there to enjoy the trip, not make a fashion statement. But the shovel, chairs and a 5 gallon bucket are always easy to get to. If there’s an unscheduled deployment of the shovel and you don’t want to throw it on top, stuff it in a trash...

    DIY Solar Generator

I like the 110v extensions, I keep wanting to get some but then decide I’m too lazy to drill and seal more holes. I built mine with two 55ah SLAs in a 40qt igloo. If you have problems with motors/fans ticking and lights flickering, add loads to the inverter or look into a sine wave inverter.

    New member

Howdy from DFW. Some of us meet monthly in Weatherford if you’re ever passing through. It’s usually the second Saturday of the month, except this one. Some of us are checking out a little state park NE of the metroplex.

Is anybody actually getting out ? (Edit)

Well, no pressure here. I spend dozens and dozens rather than thousands and thousands. We’re pretty set on how we like to do things which makes gear and planning easy. I try to take at least one camp picture, a landscape picture and a group picture because I cycle through them on my phone and...

Longshot270's build, travel and tinkering thread

New years beach trip was a success. The batteries barely got a dent running two fans off the inverter, pump sprayer makes a great shower but the 2 gallons goes fast, cast iron is still the best for cooking over a hot burner and don’t forget the citronella candle. Luckily zote soap works for a...

Propane conversion kit for Coleman white gas stove

If fuel is the issue, they run just fine on pump gas. BUT, the main burner needs to be run hot. I use an old Coleman 425 for processing scrap lead into fishing weights and rarely waste white gas on it. If size is the issue, I don’t think they are worth converting. The regular Coleman two burner...

    Mattress suggestions please!

Another vote for the cheap foam mattress off Amazon, unless you are camping in cold areas. It’ll get very firm. One advantage to them is that they can be easily cut to fit your space with a good fillet knife, like cutting out the fender wells and shortening for the tailgate. Then stuff it back...

US Southwest Dallas/Ft Worth Texas Area Meetup

    Complete Newbie

Howdy from north Texas. We’ve got a few levels of camping gear including ground tents with cots, a truck bed tent, and a home made camper. Our little camper has easily gone through Devil’s River state natural area and some very rough roads from west Texas to Alabama. The truck bed camper will...

    Dog first aid

This tri-care ointment is really good for all kinds of injuries on dogs and livestock. Always write the date on first aid stuff so you know to buy a new one next time you swing by tractor supply.

    2022 Overland Adventure Motortrend

For the shower, I prefer low pressure pneumatic rather than electric or gravity. I’ve used all kinds over the years and my personal favorite is my 2 gallon pump sprayer with a sink sprayer adapted to the outlet tube. I added a Schrader valve stem so I can set my air compressor regulator to 15...

Why are the Ram's and all long beds neglected in the aftermarket world?!

I think part of the problem is that some ram trucks don’t have a square bed (2013+ maybe). I think my 6.5’ tapers in 2-3 inches. I seem to remember by dad having the same complaint on his 8ft 3500 SRW. I build all my own stuff so it’s only a minor irritation.

Beast - otherwise known as well that didn't go as planned

If you’re still having issues with the oil pan, I’d get a sturdy wire and “floss” the gap. Sometimes just a little nudge in the right spot…or wrap the wire working ends around a tool handle and use leverage.

US Southwest Dallas/Ft Worth Area Meetup - Parker, Palo Pinto, Hood, Johnson, Erath, Somerville, Tarrant, Dallas, and Jack Counties

I’ve got it on my calendar, and we’ll be able to stock up at HEB since we’ve got a trip planned the following weekend.

Any interest in a trail repairs class?

I agree, such a class should be on everyone’s list. Vehicle first aid can prevent person first aid by proving awareness of problems and fixing them before things go catastrophically sideways.

    Texas State Parks gpx

I think it was the app not playing nice with my crapple phone. I moved the link to the browser, downloaded and uploaded to gaia. Awesome work

    Texas State Parks gpx

Those waypoints would be very useful for me, but I’m having trouble. My phone is saying it can’t get the gpx tracks info. Does it need to be downloaded on a computer?
