Getting lost is a relative term nowadays. I’ve helped people that were lost on a flowing river. There’s up stream and down stream, not sure how you get lost in two dimensions but they were stressing out about not knowing where they were. I’m assuming they thought they passed their end point vehicle.
Keep at it, it’ll take time, you’re fishing in a very small pool. Most people aren’t out denting, chipping and scratching new vehicles. The ones that are, often take nice pictures themselves.
Your website says y’all live on the road. If I were you, I’d get a travel thread started and keep it up...
I guess it depends on the automaker but to me idle restriction isn’t relevant anymore. My truck is a 2017 Ram with nothing innovative under the hood. When I put a heavy load from my 2000 watt inverter, the idle automatically rises to compensate until it hits 14v again.
I’ve got E rated KO2s on a set of factory steel wheels for trips where the terrain is expected to have puncture, rip, and slimy mud hazards. They are tough tires but they ride rough and have poor stopping and handling compared to my main set. For regular commuting, road trips and beach sand...
If you have issues, you can try putting it in a cheap igloo cooler. Any heat generated by the unit charging and discharging will have a better chance staying close with a little bit of insulation. If you need a bit more heat, a 20-40 watt incandescent bulb puts out a surprising amount of heat in...
Retired the little home built camper and jumped into an Aliner. After adding better solar input, mud flaps and an inverter for boondocking, we took it to a nearby park for an initial shakedown overnighter. Found some things that need to be changed like replacing an LED light fixture that shines...
You can call it whatever you want, but there would be some communication errors if we threw together a group trip. We call trips on the road “road trips”.
If someone invites us on an “overland” trip, I’m expecting a trip through areas with minimal development. I’m looking at the map expecting...
Not washing the vehicle, but I do wash fishing gear, boats and dogs. If I wasn’t a DIYer, that kit look very attractive depending on the price and psi/gpm of the sprayer.
I can second this. I prefer my soft cooper P rated street tires over my hard bfg ko2 E tires in fluffy beach sand. The coopers are just more likely to get damaged by debris. I also knew several old surf fishermen who swore by those no longer legal bald tires.
On our last trip, I was at street...
Do you use the back seat? Should be pretty easy to unbolt and pull it. Then a piece of plywood with just enough risers to support and level. Removing the rear seats in my ram was probably the most useful modification I’ve done.
Could OB replace all my social media? No, I’ve cultivated a variety of interests that won’t fit in a single silo. If I was the type that jumped all into a given topic, maybe. I maintain the opinion that message boards and forums like this have more utility than f***book or any of the others ever...
I have a homemade kit consisting of an air chuck on a snubber hose, a regulator and standard quick connect fitting. When airing down I occasionally press my finger on the male quick connect to read pressure. Speed doesn’t matter to me but it is faster than the little brass adjustable blow offs...
I think Tom got busy and forgot to post the new rally point.
Looks like there’s some options for DFW on 2/11/23. There will be a rigs and coffee at Cabela’s in Plano in the morning and dinner at Boo Rays in Weatherford in the evening.
You could fix it. Sounds like it isn’t a gate keeper but presents a unique challenge incentivizing people to go around. Has the obstacle gotten noticeably worse over the years? This could be a case of long time users getting tired of more highly equipped vehicles making places that were...
I’m usually packing the MSR whisper light international instead of my propane single or double burners. I don’t even care that it is compact or light weight, I just like a burner that puts out tons of heat.
Something else we like is our Dash electric skillet. We got it for highway road trips...
Back in 2020, I threw together a “Highway rated tent” camper in a utility trailer for around $1500 counting the trailer. It isn’t fancy but we’ve gone on camping and road trips in conditions that we wouldn’t have with a tent.
I also made sure to build it small enough to fit in the garage and...
