I had a 2003 Dakota with the 4.7L engine. It had 290k when I finally had to get rid of it a couple of years ago. The engine and transmission were still going strong. It was all the other issues with the rest of the truck (mostly age/rust related) that forced me to get rid of it.
I use my truck for hunting. Many a dead animal has ridden in the bed. But I never really “built it out”. Just did what I had to do. It is a Ram 1500 and like most half ton trucks these days are not really meant to be driven off road. They sit low and have those front air dams on them...
I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Tradesman. The tow hooks are fine. They are mounted to the frame. The “bumpers” are really just thin metal covers. They will do nothing to protect your vehicle and are easily dented. The brackets that mount them to the truck are just thin metal also. I was making a...

This is the first time I tried to setup a rally point so can’t say if it was working before. Have not had issues typing before in forums like right now.
Yea, not sure it is ready for prime time. All kinds of little things.
Today, I was trying to set up a rally point and when I tried to fill out the Full Description field everything is typing out backwards (see picture). And then I can’t backspace because the cursor keeps going to the far left.
It is so depressing thinking about how far away July is right now. Even more so August and September! I am so looking forward to going back again. I have always gone by myself but maybe this year with some new friends.
With all the COVID (aka The Wuhan Red Death) shutdowns this year, it looks like I am going to have a lot of leave in 2021. I would not be opposed to going to NMW twice in one year. I went in late July this year and the bugs were tolerable.
I live in Virginia and was up there for five nights at the end of July. Not planning on going again until the week before Labor Day weekend (2021). It is hunting season now and the NMW is packed with hunters. Good luck finding a spot to camp. Then the snows begin. The key is to go as late...
I have such fond memories of going camping as a kid back in the day (70s primarily). One of the “essential” items we had was a Coleman lantern. It lighted our campsite at night and the “hiss” it made was as much a sound of the night as any other sound.
Now I have two LED lights and a battery...
Always funny how people people say you need a rooftop tent to get a good nights sleep while overlanding. When I was in the military I slept all kinds of crazy places just fine. The secret to a good nights sleep back then was total exhaustion. Today, I have come to realize that if I was not...
The big question is what destination for the week of the 27th? Back up to the NMW in Maine or stay more local and explore Shenandoah and George Washington & Jefferson National Forest? Would love to hit Maine twice in one year but certainly a long drive. Decisions decisions decisions.
Went and did a section of the TransAmerican Trail here in Virginia and West Virginia. Nothing really hard or technical. Most of it was hard paved roads but still a very scenic drive. I did find a great section of road (Rt. 55) right on the VA/WVA border that I will explore further.
Looking more like a possible second trip to Maine and the North Maine Woods this year again in September. Looking like the week of Labor Day at this point. Will just have to see what shakes out.
