i agree with pretty much everything. low profile of rotopax us awesome on the roof, but just cant justify the cost. they seem especially expensive in canada.
a few weeks ago i went out with another yellow fj. this truck is his. hes got some different mods than me, so was cool to look at. just a dusting of snow on this trip, but a few feet now.
dont forget hot water bottles. pick up a few and keep them in the truck. so comfy to fall asleep with and no propane or power needed. a good one lasts a couple of hours.
i dig viewranger. also use the mobile version of my pc software called memory map. its cheap but not free. i will check out some of these other ideas and suggestions as well.
i have one as well, but ive never activated it yet. i cant seem to use it as a gps currently. maybe since its never been activated? i will get a plan eventually, but in the mean time its an expensive paper weight. am i missing something?
There are so many good digital maps that I find and often wish “I wish I could put that map on my Garmin”. Well, you can. Here is how.
Step 1.
Open Google Earth. Zoom into the area you know the map covers.
Step 2.
Hit the “Add Image Overlay” button. It will open a window in Google...
basemaps will open pretty much any type of track file, and many types of maps. you have to supply your own maps if you want any detail. there are lots of regional ones and specialty ones. garmin birdseye maps give basecamp a google earth type map, but you have to pay for it. basecamp works...

i've come across mounts for jerry cans and rotopax that are basically a ratchet strap that cinches around a rear mounted spare. seems like it has potential. anyone use one? thoughts? pictures?
does anyone have roof lights that they can remove? maybe a bar that you can easily attach or take off? maybe it has some plug system that easily lets you remove it?
i like roof lights and have had them before on other vehicles, but they hit on branches and barely get used. i'd like the...
either would be sweet. got a trip planned for apex jamboree weekend already, but anything else is a big possibility. you going? what about the toy run in november?
i alsi try and keep some hot drink available all the time. hot water for hot chocolate or a hot apple cider going. just a covered pot keeping warm on the fire. spiced rum goes well in hot apple cider, i've heard.
when stopping work or between activities, its awesome to have a drink basically...
i'm planning a trip from my current home in kelowna, to my old stomping grounds in eastern manitoba in may. i love old fire towers and am wondering if you know of any that i could drive to in the central or southern parts of alberta or saskatchewan.
i will have my son with me, and he's 2, so...
