It's likely using A-GPS and not the actual GPS from the iPhone, everything I've read (including recent stuff) says the iPhone doesn't share precise location data with other devices. Have you used that setup out in BFE where there's no cell signal and had it still work? If so then maybe that's...
Right, the only "pairing" to be done is connecting the iPad to the iPhone's hotspot but that doesn't share GPS data with the iPad, it's internet/data only. The only way to get GPS on a WiFi-only iPad is with a GPS receiver directly connected to it.
There are definitely projects/ideas I could work on, the problem is I'm at the point where the ones I have left are rather expensive and not necessary yet. Would like to do front and rear bumpers, winch, rear spare tire carrier, and get some sliders. I'll probably try and get things rolling on...
Yeah, maybe I'll pick up route planning for our eventual Canada/Yukon/NWT/Alaska trip that we're hoping to do in a couple of years.
Speaking of models, when COVID first hit I picked up one of the LEGO Bugatti kits, that kept me busy for about a week. haha
Ok, I know everyone is different and a big factor is where you live/where home is so I'll start by talking about my situation.
We moved from SoCal to Illinois a little over 7 years ago, and while the move was a net gain in quality of life the problem is that Illinois is not exactly known for...
My concern with going that route is that the inReach battery life is pretty awful if used for more than minimal use. Not that you would be using it while not plugged in, my point is more that it's not really meant for constant use like that and it would suck to have it not work when you need it...
The bolt size and length depend on what you're mounting to the Decked platform, so Decked would have no clue what to tell you to use as there's no one-size-fits-all bolt. I want to say the Decked platform is around 1/2" thick, when I mounted my AluCab tilt slide to my Decked I was able to use...
If all you're wanting is GPS on the iPad and don't care about inReach services return both the iPad Mini 6 and inReach Mini and get an iPad Mini 6 w/ cellular. The cellular models have built-in GPS receivers and you do not have to have the cell plan activated. That would be the easiest path to...
Generally, black bears shouldn't be too much of a concern but you can't be flippant about how you keep your camp or where you store your food. Grizzlys are a different animal altogether and the same general rules that apply to black bears do not apply to grizzly bears because they aren't scared...
I can see Zello being useful and I'll probably see about getting my wife and daughter onboard with trying it out. Thinking more like when we're out and about (shopping, walking around town, etc) and calling or texting are less than ideal, being able to hit a virtual button and reach everyone...
No, there are radio-to-IP gateway devices similar to DMR/D-Star/Wires-X that allow traditional radios to work with preconfigured Zello users/channels, but when it comes to Zello it requires cellular or wifi connectivity to work. The stand-alone devices also require cellular or wifi, there is no...
Just to clarify how I read your initial post (quoted above), your wording did actually imply that Zello is another off-grid option. Sure, knowing that it works over LTE/requires data should make it clear that it's not for off-grid comms, but I think some of the issue was that your post does...
The next truck mod has been completed. I finally pulled the trigger on some Fox 2.0 coilovers for the front of my truck since I was still stock up there and wanted a little more clearance and a little less rake. The install was a typical PITA that was made worse by breaking a swaybar bracket...
I'll also add that Gaia has basically always been slow to download on my iPad Pro since I started using it a couple of years ago, so for me this is nothing new. Various downloads seem to get stuck and eventually complete or I can stop and restart the downloads to get it to complete.
I'm curious, those of you with slow download/sync performance are you all on Apple devices? I ask because Gaia on my iPad Pro is being annoyingly slow to download/sync but my Android cell phone with Gaia, connected to the same wifi and only a few feet from my iPad, is fast. Perhaps there's a...
I was looking into MITS a year or two ago, just as they were starting to get the ball rolling on setting up dealers/distributors in the US. We ended up going another route, but they make awesome products and seem to be really nice folks so I wouldn't hesitate to go with them if that's the kind...
Yes, the price is a bit nutty, but you have to consider that inReach tech is included. A standard Overlander + inReach Mini 2 = $1,100. The Tread is $200 more and does provide better specs and functionality than the standard Overlander above and beyond the inReach tech. Is that worth the...
So, Sunday night I got back from the first long trip with our Pando 2.0. Total miles was around 3,500 (IL -> AZ and back for Expo West). Trailer was flawless! To recap, here's what I've done since we took delivery:
Turned off the second bank of the NOCO GENPRO10x2 120v -> 12v charger as the...
Bump. Overland Expo West special price, $650 just so I don't have to haul them all the way back home. Haha
I'll be camping at the expo Thursday through Saturday at least, possibly staying for Sunday as well.
