If you want to be able to easily remove the entire Alu-Cab slide then using tracks is a great idea. If you don't care about that then there's no need to mount the Alu-Cab slide to anything other than the Decked cover, which is exactly what I did when I had my ICECO VL60D in my truck.
I think the larger issue is that you're thinking everyone should fit your definition of what overlanding (or whatever you want to call it) is and are taking issue with those that don't fit your definition, whether it has to do with how much money someone spent or their attitude. If we were all...
Danfoss -> SECOP, prior to 2008 it was Danfoss, then SECOP acquired Danfoss Compressors. That's why you see references to Danfoss/SECOP, some may recognize the Danfoss name but not SECOP.
The VMSO3 compressor is made in-house by Dometic, it's not the same thing as or a rebranded Danfoss/SECOP...
Everyone has different budgets and goals. Overlanding is whatever YOU want it to be and what other people do should have no bearing on you. Your argument could be used just about anywhere in society. Someone will always have a more expensive car, a bigger house, a bigger boat, more...
I can't recommend the ICECO VL-series fridges enough, great products, great support, and great value for the money. They are solidly built, reliable, and are great in terms of efficiency. If the VL60D we had would've fit the fridge slide in the new trailer I would've kept it. I can't say much...
The OP's GO20 is definitely more of a budget fridge, but ICECO isn't about making low-quality products. If the ICECO VL60D we had would've fit the fridge slide of our new trailer I would've kept it instead of adding the optional Dometic CFX3 55IM to the build, but the ICECO was too big. I'd...
They're not...
The GO20 doesn't have those settings.
To the OP, I wouldn't be too concerned about the temp swings. You didn't mention how full the fridge was, but regardless of that the "ideal" fridge temperature is 40F or below. The fridge maintaining sub-40F temps is perfectly fine and...
Non-stock tire sizes are effectively the same as changing axle gear ratios, adaptive shift logic in modern transmissions takes engine RPM, engine load, TPPS (throttle pedal position sensor) and road speed into account. You thinking it should just be RPM-based is of no consequence since that is...
In addition to the above post from @Ubiety, I disagree with the statement that the speedo is "never correct" or that tire wear is going to make speedo calibration pointless. Let's say you run a 35" Wildpeak A/T3w that starts life with 19/32" tread depth (0.59") and you replace tires once they...
TBD, our youngest daughter is waiting to hear back about if she got the job as camp counselor for 4-H this summer. If she gets the job and is going to need to work all 4 camp sessions then we won't be able to go until late July or early August. If she doesn't get the job or doesn't have to...
NOTE: These will be on my truck until mid-May and I can deliver them within reason along the route between Flagstaff, AZ and Monticello, IL at that time (May 21-22 time frame). I'll also be at Overland Expo West and they can be picked up there as well.
The tires are 2 years old and have 10/32"...
AlfaOBD is for FCA vehicles, which is great if you have one. :) For non-FCA vehicles it really depends on the vehicle. On the GM side of things, you can have tire/gear change compensation done as part of a custom ECM tune. I don't know about other manufacturers, but GM dealers will only...
Something else to look at are the inflation and load charts from the tire manufacturers. They will tell you the minimum required PSI for a given load on the tire in order to run it at the rated speed. From the vehicle manufacturer, the OEM tires and tire pressures are what is needed to provide...
It's all good, perhaps it was a bit pedantic but wanted to avoid confusion since there are catalytic propane heaters that don't have open flames and produce no carbon monoxide so they are actually quite cool (not literally, of course) and a little safer than things like Buddy heaters.
I don't...
The biggest pro of a diesel or other heat-exchanger-based heater is the safety of knowing you're not going to burn down your tent which could cause a forest fire, etc. The second biggest pro is the dry heat that doesn't create condensation. People using Buddy or other open flame heaters inside...
That is a rumor started by "GM Authority", there has never been any official announcement from GM stating this and, in fact, after "GM Authority" started the rumor GM actually released a statement saying that they've secured availability of the 2.8 for the "foreseeable future." Not sure if it's...
Yup, we did Corkscrew last time but didn't camp, I'll do some checking around there again for spots. I went up to the start of Yankee Boy Basin but didn't attempt it, at the time there were some rather large boulders that looked like they were hungry for rockers/doors. If I still had my JKUR I...
