    Thinking outloud, please interject.

My mind is made up until it isn't. I can't leave anything alone so the Mitsubishi will get modified somewhat. But finding parts for it is difficult. OME and Ironman 4x4 are the only companies that make lift kits, but they are special order with freight from Austrailia.

Why Did You Become a Member of Overland Bound?

I've been watching Michael's videos on youtube for a few years. Finally joined and purchased membership once the family showed interest in camping.

I like the 5.2 V8 over the 4 liter I6 because it has wonderful low end torque. The Magnum engines were introduced in 1964. The SOHC I6 was introduced in 1993.

I’m between a New Rebel or an older Raptor

FYI, the big tank is a bolt in mod. It is just longer than the small one.

Some people can turn their daily rig in to a good overlanding machine. My wife runs a cleaning business out of hers and I am constantly hauling stuff for my other money pit, a Columbia 26 MKII sailboat. So a 3rd vehicle that can be a dedicated overlanding rig just makes sense. I have worked...

    2020

Last year I actually took all of my PTO instead of just cashing it out. This year i will do the same and try to get more.

I don't know of any aftermarket products for TJ's, but i have seen some JK's with only a half seat installed in the rear.

    Let’s talk Coolers:

Peltier coolers (the thermo-electric ones posted above) are extremely inefficient. So stau away from them. I have used dry ice before and was able to keep stuff frozen for about 4 days in a cheap cooler. You can also build your own cooler. https://shedheads.net/built-diy-yeti-style-cooler/

You are already farther ahead than most. You know how to get where you want to go. The rest is just personal opinion. I find a tree stump to be a wonderful camp chair. Others do not.

OB Approved Safety and Security While Traveling

Step #1: do not look like prey. Around humans, good posture, shoulders back, head on a swivel. Try to see people before they see you. In the wilderness, do as nature does. Put sunglasses on the back of your head.

No, I haven't. Cuz I'm lazy and I'm just gonna wait until my badge arrives.

The best mod is "seat time". Get out and do it, then adjust as necessary.

    Hammocks

My go-to is a DIY double layer. Right now i am experimenting with different setups to hang it from my rig so I don't need trees. I was never able to sleep in while camping until i started hanging. Now i need an alarm clock.

    Thinking of a Nissan Xterra

    I just saw a 2015 Pro4X for $19k from a local dealer.

    Hello from Lynden, WA

I still haven't received it. After reading another thread it seems that the email only gets sent maybe 20% of the time now.

    So motorcycle overlanding

I gave up riding on the street this year and traded the trusty DR350 for a dirt rocket. But I had some great times.

I love my Mitsubishi. It's quirky, fun, not super common, and i think it looks great. But aftermarket support is virtually non-existent. It is easy to find engine parts since thr 6G72 was installed in a bunch of Chrysler vehicles, but the rest of the vehicle is all special order parts. That...
