...I have seen quite a few Xterras all kitted out and was amazed what you are able to do with them. You’re right about the truck top tents. The more I think about them the more I realize that the older I get the harder it will be to get down from it!
Plus, I already have a 2, 4, and 6-man...
Love the D41!
As far as mods, you really don't need much. Good tires is about it.
Get a quick pitch tent, or a swag, and just use basic camping gear. I wouldn't recommend modding the vehicle until you start encountering obstacles that you can tackle. Carry a decent toolkit, a few spare parts...
Thinking about getting a permit for this next year. Are they okay with you sleeping in your tent? I heard you have to have a line in the water in order to be there.
...bit with the wife and kids.
Good thing, I recently picked up a 2024 F-150 Raptor R and want to set it up for full on camping trip. Like rooftop tent, rack system, so on and so fourth......I am planning to have the truck setup with an EGR roll track bed cover but can't for the life of me get...
Oh yeah I definitely can't be mounted to the roof of the truck. It has to be a rack like you mentioned. Some type of ladder rack where the weight is put on the bed rails and maybe supported at the front bumper as well (like how some plumbing truck ladder racks are done). I'll have to be careful...
It’s not so much the tent you have to worry about for your size. They are designed to hold the weight when opened. It’s the roof of the truck. Most of the racks mount in the rain gutter. Like my Prinsu Rack mounted with 6 bolts each side through the roof rain gutter is 1000lbs static weight/600...
...for those who enjoy the solitude of nature during the colder months. It requires careful preparation, including proper gear like a four-season tent, sleeping bags rated for low temperatures, and sufficient food supplies to withstand harsh weather conditions. Camping in winter offers a...
...are. Thank you for letting me know what those are called so I can start looking at them.
I'm hoping to have any part that flips out of the tent, where it hangs off the edge of the vehicle, open onto the rack for more support due to my weight. Don't really want to be floating over the edge...
I love cold weather camping, especially in the snow. It's so incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Also, you have the wild to yourself because many don't want to brave the cold!
I should add, I'm actually considering a winter expedition on the ice roads north of Fort MacMurray, all the way to Fort...
What’s the best way to stay warm in my rooftop tent?
try doing your taxes up there....
that should make your blood boil...thus warming up rest of your body! :grinning:
ha! maybe i am making light of this, referencing fat dogs and doing taxes to stay warm...but i am wondering if there is a...
To stay warm in your rooftop tent, use an insulated sleeping bag and add extra blankets or a sleeping pad for insulation. I learned this while camping and explore new places; it makes a big difference in keeping cozy!
...I too need to work out of my truck, but want the ease of having what I need for our camp trips. The hard thing for you would be the roof top tent situation while pulling a gooseneck. That limits all your over the bed space. Something like a chase rack would work maybe. Where it goes over the...
Tarps. I second that. Under a tent. Overhead as an awning (no batwing needed). Over a tent as added rain protection. Tie it vertical between 2 trees for a wind-breaker. Over gear in an open bed truck, tied down...
Towel...dont forget to bring a towel (that is true, AND is two pop culture...
