Kudos to them for taking a new vehicle off road.

US Southeast Planning our first trip

My wife and I are planning a weekend trip in early July and booked a local spot on Hipcamp just to be sure.

US Southeast Planning our first trip

The linked threads include a few gpx files for Pineola Road, Maple Sally Road, maybe a few others. If you visit Betsey's Ole Country Store, you'll likely meet Bruce, and if Bruce sees your Jeep, he may send you over to Old House Gap Road. "Primeval" is how he described it to me. I would just...

US Southeast Planning our first trip

That's a great area to explore. There is a dozen or more spots along Old NC105 on the ridge west of Linville Gorge, and a half dozen along the entrance road for the Brown Mountain OHV. Many spots along the various forest service roads in between. Wilson Creek south of Mortimer is beautiful...

Overlanding Shoes (Is there such a thing :-) )

I'm considering this exact shoe - either that or the "Joe's PH". I thought both were custom only - you were able to order a standard sized version?

Our, And Your, Opinions On Some Popular Overlanding Gear

I see your point on the Skottle - anything I cook on it could also be cooked on a griddle. However, the Skottle is fun. It's a little different from cooking on a stove at home, and because it's a circle, it's more social than turning my back to the group and attending to a camp stove.

General Observations about the influx of people to the outdoor world

He may have been pounding the post-accident beers in order to claim that he got drunk after the accident, not before.

    Where to Camp?

Hipcamp may be worth a look.

New to this not sure how it works, I have a question tho?ugh

You should be able to find a hybrid (low profile center-only) bumper, powder coated and shipped for under $1000. Try LFD Offroad.

General Observations about the influx of people to the outdoor world

Rather than closing trails, perhaps a semi-wilderness designation for selected trails limiting access to those who pass a test in basic recovery, first aid, navigation, and treading lightly. Something along the lines of a Ham radio license.

Looking to start overlanding. Can I do it with my new SR5?

That's no stock car, that's Herbie. Of course Herbie could do it.

Black Bean Burgers And A Couple Snow Peak Cookers

That could be pretty good with a few slices of bacon on top.

Anyone have a FI dog collar?

Does the owner's cellphone need to have a cellular signal in order to track the collar? If not, how is the location transmitted back to the owner?

    Gazelle Tents

We have a T4Plus and a T4. With the T4Plus we use an OzTent footprint to provide puncture resistance and, because it isn't waterproof, it lets water drain through and away from the tent. The tent bottom is already waterproof. With the T4 we got the overland edition's footprint - this works...

270 degree awnings what’s your take?

If Alu-Cab or Kinsmen made a 180 I would have eagerly bought either. In order to buy once/cry once, the option needs to first be available. A 270 just won't work with a 4Runner tailgate - not with the gate all the way up, and a gate halfway up would have me hitting my head every time I turned...

270 degree awnings what’s your take?

Alu-cab, at double the price, or Kinsmen, at over triple. I would have gone with the Kinsmen if he made a 180; instead I picked the OVS 180 over the 23Zero 180. Still waiting for a June shipment.

    Overland Expo East 2021

It may be hopeful thinking, but I doubt that Virginia will get any nuttier the month before state elections.

    A Great Campsite Salmon

I enjoyed your earlier video with the coffee at the train station. This one was also informative and enjoyable. Subscribed. Thanks.

How heavy is your overlanding JKU?

Would I? Yes, but I'm not the usual SUV driver. I almost didn't survive having my previous car get rear-ended by an SUV.
