    GMRS

I have had good results with my Wouxun KG-905G handheld. It transmits on the GMRS high powered channels at 5 watts, FRS at 0.5 watts, with a removable antenna so I can use the stubby inside a vehicle or a 15 inch antenna for outdoors use. No complaints. Certainly adequate for a small group on...

That could work quite well combined with a roof rack privacy tube.

    Roof Boxes anyone?

a 12" circle cannot contain an 11" by 11" square. Picture your requirement as four 5.5" squares. The diagonal of each square is about 7.8 inches, which is the radius of your circle, double that for the diameter, so 15.6" rounds up to a 16" pipe.

    Roof Boxes anyone?

Good luck at that price. A length of 16" PVC pipe would cost more than that.

    Spare tire mounting for 4runner

One thing to consider would be running a narrower spare - 255/80/17 - along with the wider primaries ( I assume you are running 285/70/17). That would match the diameter but preserve the ground clearance.

    Spare tire mounting for 4runner

Swap your spare and one of the four, and see if the larger tire fits. I think it will fit, unless you have KDSS back there, however the tire may be so wide it will hang down and drag on a steep exit angle.

Grunni - follow-up - I saw that you drive a 4Runner - the Appalachian Toyota Roundup held over Labor Day weekend at Windrock in East Tennessee is a solid event, with daily trail rides at Green , Easy Blue, Hard Blue, and Difficult levels, meals, regional Toyota vendors (LFD, Budbuilt, Apex...

There are several active groups in the Tidewater area. Coastal Virginia Overland (Instagram) has a trip to Flagpole Knob planned for July. Tidewater Fourwheelers (Facebook) is planning a ride on the Bald Mountain Jeep Trail this Saturday. Friends, Fuel, & 4x4s (Facebook) did a recent meet in...

    Jerry can faucet.

I ended up with one wire outside the tap that was a loop - I just cut it, crimped both ends into one end of a butt connector, and sheathed it along with the main wire. Now my only issue is keeping the tubing sanitary when not installed/in use.

GMRS: "not impressed" or "we musta been doing something wrong"

The Wouxun KG905 is a solid model. For range, you can swap to a longer antenna - not sure a 15 inch antenna is that workable inside a vehicle though. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-905g.html https://www.buytwowayradios.com/nagoya-na-771g.html

    (KDSS) Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System?

You can install a switch to turn KDSS on and off. Somewhat like a sway bar disconnect.

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

If I didn't have a 100 pound dog, I'd be adding an RTT for those reasons. Also, I don't like being the slow one to break camp for a morning trail ride.

New Cast Iron Care And Maintenance

Use oven cleaner to strip it bare, use a sander to polish it smooth, and use Buzzy Wax and the advice given above to start a new patina.

New Cast Iron Care And Maintenance

You should not be trying to fill in the voids of a rough Lodge pebble surface with accumulated gunk. Cast iron seasoning is a microscopically thin patina, not a coating. A good patina resists soap and allows the use of a flexible steel spatula. Start with a mirror-smooth cast iron cooking...

    Stock 4Runner Wanting 285’s

The 285 (33") seems to be the sweet spot. The 4Runner has IFS - you can lift the front, but the suspension tops off at the same point as before, so the lift doesn't help you run a bigger tire, not if you flex the front. 285 can work with a fender liner mod and / or a mud flap removal, as long...
