Dometic Fridge + Jackery Wiring Help

There is more than one way to do this, but this is the conventional method I use. Power will come from the battery through a relay. The relay will switch on when it gets voltage from the OEM 12v plug. In the back of the Jeep, mount your accessory panel and find a place to secure and ground...

Dometic Fridge + Jackery Wiring Help

Do you want the USB ports to power on and off with the 12v port?

    Unusual Gear

I carry a pair of fireplace tongs for adjusting the wood in the camp fire. Yes, they're a bit long, but they fit in the same area as some of my other tools. Not a necessity, but it sure makes tending the fire easy, and it's nice not burning the temper out of your shovel.

    Awnings

Yeah, back before all the OBX beaches went pay to play. I don't go down there anymore.

Camp Poop (sorry for the bluntness but I want to know)

I use a small pop-up tent for ablutions. A Luggable Loo seat on a 5-gallon bucket provides convenience and comfort. I use black trash bags. Press as much air out as you can, and drop the bag into your Trasharoo or whatever you use to store trash.

    Gaia route issue?

Gaia has always been unreliable for me. You have to check and double check that routes, waypoints, etc. make it to the device you need them on and that offline map layers have actually downloaded. These are basic features in so many software products we use, but don't take for granted that...

Can I rejuvenate waterproofing on my old tent fly?

I hit the awning and tent fly with Star Brite every couple of years or so.

Trying to make overlanding more enjoyable for a family of 4

My trips got better when I stopped trying to convince my wife to go and discontinued trying to make her more comfortable. She went with me enough to be certain that the offroad thing was not her cup of tea. It allowed me to drop a lot of my concerns and focus on making things better for me.

Poll: I approach trip planning by...

I'll mark something in Gaia that I find mentioned, then use that as a sort of beacon to focus my exploration. Sometimes it's a trail or camp site I've found mentioned elsewhere, other times it's just a seasonal gate I've found marked in a map layer.

    Solo Overlanding

Solo travel is not without additional risk, but traveling at your own pace is pretty incredible. When traveling with others, sometimes you are so comfortable that your eyes are only half open. The trips I now remember most vividly were the ones where I was alone, at least for a day or two.

    Am I doing gaia wrong?

Gaia is where you create your own tracks and waypoints. You can import those shared by others, but this is not an automatic inclusion. You've got to do the work. iOverlander has filters that will help you make it show you exactly what you're looking for, although it may or may not exist in...

    Renogy products

I had a 100w panel and the bluetooth charge controller. No issues with either.

    Awnings

If you can catch it in stock, the NAPA awning is a bargain. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_MTSA2525 I've had a Smittybilt 8x6 for 7 years. It is my most-used piece of gear, by far. The larger, heavier awnings are impressive, but I've never been in a position where I had everything...

Convince me I should keep lugging around my hi-lift

If you have a winch, you probably don't need one. I count on mine as both a jack and a come-along. In the 25 years I've carried one, I've used it offroad exactly once. But I have used it often for demo and construction.

Poll: When you camp, do you normally have cell service?

    Almost never. That's on purpose.

    Mr. heater "Little Buddy" experience?

I went with the larger Buddy heater just for the increased stability. Sometimes I use it just to knock the chill down and pre-heat my sleeping bag before bed. Sometimes I run it all night and hang out of the sleeping bag. It's way oversized for heating a rooftop tent, but it has been a good...

    Propane mount

On My FJ Cruiser, I had a JM2 cylinder mount from Refined Cycle and Offroad. On the GX, I have a Power Tank 9" mount hung from a Nash Fabco curved ladder with some aluminum/stainless bracketry I made myself. Both the JM2 and Power Tank mounts are around $120. For the time and materials...

    Boondocking near Gatlinburg, TN

I've looked for similar info, also unsuccessfully, and determined the best course of action is to scout for spots yourself in Nantahala and Cherokee National Forests.

You may not even need a slide if you setup your cargo area correctly.
