Forget it @The Raven, it's Overland Town. I'm really not sure why some folks got so heated about this, it's weird. I feel like the point you were making was fine (I'll offer my interpretation, please feel free to correct): Being an overlander is or should be about respectful stewardship of...
Interesting stuff, thank you. Like many of us, I'll probably mostly be shooting landscapes, rig photos, wildlife, some macro... I currently use a GoPro for video and and Olympus TG2, and occasionally my wife's Iphone (cuz my Galaxy S5 takes crummy pics).
I had actually read a few mentions of...
Anyone have feedback on the Nikon D3400 (or 3300)? A number of online searches led me to it as one of the best entry level DSLRs, which is what I'm looking for...
This is me exactly. I plan far more adventures than I actually get to take, what with a full time job, baby, 2 dogs, mortgage, etc... But for me, the planning and outfitting is a large and fun part of the hobby, and I really enjoy it.
I don't know, I have a hard time getting all worked up...
Not sure about "new" on the license plate mount... The pic didn't have the license plate mounted, but it's on the can carrier. The one problem with my order was that it was missing the license plate lights, but they're en route (as is a replacement T-Roo buckle).
This was about 2 weeks ago actually, but I finally received and installed my MaxGear bumper, just a day before departing on a trip to Wyoming. Damn Trasharoo buckle broke during initial install, so it didn't make the trip, but it looks good in the pic...
Yesterday I paid the final balance on my Maxterra bumper w/ tire swing out and jerry can mount, should be here this week! With luck, I'll be able to get it installed before I drive to Wyoming next week...
A few years back, while camping with some friends w/ a 6 year old daughter, I came up with this idea: I brought along a piece of rough, fabric-like paper from a craft store. I aged it with dirt and a bit of fire, so it had the look of really old parchment, but more rugged. I then drew a...
Finally took the kid camping to Clackamas Lake. Ready to stay 2 nights, ended up only doing one. It went well, but our dog was sick and the campground water was E. Coli tainted. First use of the GCI Kitchen set up and Mr. Heater Buddy: both worked very well...
Just finished our first camping trip w/ the baby, and for anyone out there with an infant, get one of these:
It's compact, lightweight, and the floor ensures your kid won't be able to cram all of those delicious twigs and rocks in his/her mouth. We were able to leave her in there while we set...
I was all ready to bang out an angry and cutting reply, but then my 9 month old baby girl woke up and I had to feed her a bottle. She does this thing, when she's almost full, where she tries to shove the bottle in my mouth- it cracks her up every time! Now, I feel so much better! Y'all have a...
Respectfully, I think this language is unnecessarily inflammatory. OB is best when it provides a place for both the "fruits and nuts" AND the "gun nuts" to get together and talk rigs, trails, camping, even guns, in a civil and apolitical manner. It'd be sad to see it get exclusionary or...
I stick to simple things like bolt-on gear, changing batteries, fluid maintenance, stuff like that. Serious work with the potential to cripple my daily driver, I trust to the pros. I might be more adventurous if I had a project vehicle and a garage, but for now, I play it safe.
This could be applied to all of the above, but I use/maintain a trip checklist and/or inventory. I have inventories in all of my camping boxes, so I know at a glance what's in each at all times. I'm actually planning on doing the same for my rig this weekend, since I've added quite a few...
Dispersed camping is allowed in most of the Mt. Hood National Forest, but given its proximity to Portland, it can be crowded. And, we're expecting nice weather this weekend; given our horrible winter and non-existent spring, I'm betting a lot of people will be heading out.
Either way, head out...
