I reckon most of you saw this organically, considering Ronnie makes some of the best videos out there and most of you already watch him, but if not (and if there's a better spot for this, feel free to move it)
I've got a lightweight nesting set (the kind where the lids also serve as frying pans of varying sizes) as well as a cast iron skillet. I bring my cast iron Dutch oven occasionally, though it gets kinda heavy.
Very good point, and one I think about every time I see a massively lifted pick-up on 37's tearing down the highway at 90mph.
Asking "why" when it comes to mods can be important, though "because I want to" is usually good enough (it's a free country, right?) A more useful question is "what...
I'm taking my wife to The Suttle Lodge near Sisters, OR for her birthday. Hoping to spend some time re-exploring the Metolius River area near Camp Sherman tomorrow... This'll be our first night away from our 7 month old, so I'm excited and sad at the same time.
What's everyone doing in the way of protecting the undercarriage from rust/corrosion? It's not something I've ever really thought about (we don't often salt in the Portland area, though it is pretty wet here), but now that I'm investing more in my rig, I'm also considering ways to keep it...
That pic is Oneonta Gorge, just outside Portland near Multnomah Falls. The area is beautiful, but yeah, it's really easy to get to from Portland and is always super crowded. Even the more remote spots will likely become more well traveled, but there's still a lot of solitude to be found...
Just completed another First Aid/CPR course, and they really stressed the value of chewable aspirin for heart attacks. From the New York Times: "a study in The American Journal of Cardiology highlighted its importance. In a group of 12 subjects tested in a laboratory, chewing an aspirin tablet...
I may or may not have a close relative who had to have what may or may not have been his or her law enforcement vehicle "unstuck" via a similar method, only thru the front windows. In that case, the vehicle may or may not have been totaled by the damage done.
You can't always have a fire when camping, and sometimes when you can, wood is hard to come by. Cooking over a fire requires building the fire first, and usually it takes time for a fire to be "ready" for cooking. You can't cook everything over a fire, at least not without a few extra gadgets...
Aren't Epi Pens only available with a prescription? I'd like to have one, but for now I've just got diphenhydramine.
I just added chewable (easier to consume) aspirin to my kit; can be very useful (so I'm told) in cases of cardiac distress.
Apparently, tourniquets are back in first aid use as...
Huh, hadn't heard about that. I scrolled thru TheNewX posts on the subject, and it looks like pulling the airbag disconnect under the seat is the current workaround (note: I am not endorsing this, haven't tried it personally). It looks like OB member @BCBrian had this issue with his...
Loved the Snow Peak. Couple thoughts:
1. A small coal grate would definitely help. I'm gonna buy a cheap grill grate and cut it to fit in the bottom.
2. I think Ronnie Dahl actually said the opposite in his review, but I found the fire to be much warmer than a comparably sized ground fire...
Finally, finally! got my Hep's Designs roof rack mounted. Amateur's Tip: If someone offers bare steel for a slight discount, go for the powdercoated version. Spray painting it myself proved frustrating... I thought I was doing everything right, but I still have a few areas that are... less...
I've always relied on straight DEET when necessary. Never had any luck with the natural alternatives. @Jensen Cole Mason, I'd love to know how effective that thing is. A couple of those in a campsite (assuming they work, and I'll admit to a bit of skepticism) would be awesome.
I got the base plate with mine, but that's it. There are a ton of other accessories, but the cost adds up pretty quick...
I expect to use the base plate to elevate it a bit off the ground when necessary. They sell a cross piece for this purpose, but I think I can DIY something cheaply.
