This is an interesting subject to me and I realize that each vehicle and tow is different.
On my F-350 I have a Class 5 hitch I believe and have been using the pin to hold my strap that is doubled over at the Loop so that it’s 2” wide and fits inside the receiver.

Let me tack on another question as well...
I understand that you should apply for the campsites the day they become available so does that mean that you have to apply 2 or 3 times depending on the number of nights you want to camp on the trail?

Also what is your timeframe?
If it is in the next 3 years or so then get a vehicle that will accept higher sulphuric diesel like a 79 LC if you can get one in Europe. They are the most common vehicle in Southern Africa.
If your time frame is longer then maybe a newer diesel will be psoosble if...

Apparently someone in a Chevy busted his axle in Death Valley and after he replaced the axle he left the busted one on the side of the road!!
The guy is from Utah and very well may be a member here. WTF was he thinking...

We also do this when kayaking.
We went out last weekend for the first time this year and picked up a garbage bag of plastic bottles that had been flushed out with the recent rains.
Most if not all (Death Valley being the only exception that I know of) National Parks only allow camping in designated campgrounds.
Letting us know your location might help with a more accurate answer...
I got to drive one for a bit at a drive event last year.
Very comfortable front seats and enough room in the rear for adults on a short trip.
The engine was very peppy, more than I thought.
I’m looking to buy a new truck sometime this year and the Ranger and Jeep Gladiator are on my short list.
There are too many places to just limit it but I’ll give it a go (I’ll probably change my mind in 10 minutes!)
