Nice find, based on that the shovel I usually carry is not compliant.
Depending on how strict they are about "round-point" (probably not very strict) some of the popular big $$ overland shovels may not qualify. :)
Interesting, I hadn't heard about any specifications for a shovel. I did a quick search and could only find something about a 46" round point shovel, but it sounds like that is for cases where someone is welding in the backcountry.

I'm a few months late posting this trip report, but in August friends and I re-visted the Shaver Lake area and ended up driving out to the end of the road near the crest of the Sierras.
Summary
This is a mostly easy route that gets you way back into the Sierras and feels very remote, though you...
Thanks for the reminder, each year I print out copies and put them in both of my trucks.

Though, I don't know how credible the video is. They are using a beat up old shovel instead of a DMOS or a murder fork, how are we supposed to take them seriously? :)
Some tire manufacturers provide load charts you can use to look up tire pressure for a given amount of weight on the tire, but that requires you to know how much weight is on each axle of your truck.
A potentially simpler solution is to do a "chalk test" (Google for details) to determine the...
Just to note, 265 and 285 are the width of the tire, we'd need to know the aspect ratio (ex 70) to know the actual diameter.
For what it's worth, I've run 265/75R16s (32s) on my 4Runner for over 10 years and they have worked well on a variety of trails. And I've run the Rubicon in another truck...
+1 to the area Kent mentioned, I camped just north of there earlier this summer.
Another place I've camped before is 37.11739, -119.16960.
If you don't mind driving a bit farther there is a campsite with a great view at 37.292019, -119.089044.

I think your list sounds very reasonable for summer trips, in the winter I'd recommend carrying more cold weather gear. We're not backpacking, and clothing is pretty lightweight, so I see no issue in carrying a bit more than you need. If it rains, or you fall in a creek, or have to crawl under...
Outside had a good article on snake bites a few years ago.

Some highlights
* You stand a greater risk of being killed by lightning or a bee sting than you do of dying from a snakebite.
* 55 percent...
I've heard good things about Milo at Milogen Fabrications. A friend had his CMC done by Milo, it is solid and clean looking.

There are 3 main sections of Pardoe, the map at 4x4TrailMaps - Pardoe Trail shows them fairly well. When I say "blue" and "black" below it's referring to this map.
I haven't run the blue western section (towards Bear River Reservoir) recently but from what I remember that were one or two narrow...
In that area you might want to look into
- Pardoe trail / Hungaleti Ridge (good camping on the ridge)
- Slickrock Trail (good camping at the rivers at either end)
Hell's Gate is an optional obstacle on Hell's Revenge, you can definitely bypass it. In fact there are bypasses for most of the more difficult parts of the trail. That said, it is more difficult than Fins N' Things and there are sections that are high up and have greater exposure where it is...
There are quite a lot of trails in that general area. Can you provide some more details on what you are looking for? For example, are you interested in driving into a nice spot and spending two nights there and then driving out, or are you looking for extended dirt road driving with various...
