US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Group, It was pointed out to me that the SOR track (the spur going up through Colorado) was missing all the waypoint markers and POIs. I double checked with mine, and it is missing them too. So I contacted Sam at TAT, and his reply was: "TAT...The POI got stripped some how from the main file...

US Northwest I want to do the TAT (Trans American Trail) in 2021

Sounds like fun! After the year we had, I decided we were doing the TAT from one-end to the other in 2021. The Colorado BDR is on my wish list. I'll want to hear about your trip.

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

To answer Anna's questions: 1) Sam's maps for Rockies are broke out into Colorado or New Mexico, which one is needed? We will be in NM ever so briefly before we get into CO and pick-up the Shadow of the Rockies (SOR) route. So if you wanted to save a few pennies and skip the NM map that would...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Hi Derek, welcome aboard! We'll have quite the adventure, and with a great group of folks. And yes, we might be "boon docking" camping sometimes. Your vehicle sounds about perfect for this trip. There will be all sorts of camping set-ups on this trip; ground tents, RTTs, maybe even a small...

That would be awesome. Thanks! It sounds like we should never be wondering where the next campsite is located.

You've got room for more! The GAIA sticker is bigger than I thought it would be (I've got one on order, along with the patch).

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

This lady has an interesting story (I like her). She is (in my opinion) kind-of in-between being an overlander (her trailer's a little too big for overlanding in some places) and a full-time RVer. I enjoy watching her videos and reading her posts. Link: Why I Started Living on the Road...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

I'm definitely interested to hear what you think of the 150A GPS Bluetooth device. That's the one I'm leaning towards. The 160 almost seems like too much (unless you're a pilot and are using it in your plane). The 150A I think I could just strap it to the roll-bar (with some padding...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

So I'm learning stuff. I've learned my gen-7 iPad is a "Wi-Fi only" iPad. Some iPads are just Wi-Fi; others have Wi-Fi and cellular ability (which cellular ability essentially means your iPad can accept GPS signals). Which means pretty much once I'm out of the house with mine, I can't use...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

I can click on mine and I get a column that shows up on the left hand side with all the info about the waypoint. I was just wondering if all the waypoints could have a tag already on them saying what they were on the map. So I wouldn't have to click on each waypoint to see what they were...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Sounds like a plan, and a worthwhile side-trip. Ok Darunner - your job will be to keep track of where we are in relation to the distillery as we travel the TAT (especially as we get to within a day-or-two of it). Any camping close-by the distillery? Does anyone know how to make the waypoints...

Seems like that should be doable. How many miles is it off the TAT?

So we're just a little over four months out from our departure date. It'll get here fast. What modifications have you been doing to your vehicles to get it ready for the trip? I got a RAM mount for my TJ so I can have my 10" iPad close by. If all works right, I'll have my phone on the dash...

US Northwest I want to do the TAT (Trans American Trail) in 2021

I mostly felt it while climbing in the higher elevations trying to maintain highway speeds. Once I was "level" it wasn't so bad.

I can see the pictures you put in there. Thanks! I don't know why all the pictures that were in there before suddenly disappeared.

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Your vehicle may feel the altitude. My four-cylinder TJ and trailer (and I) drove east across Colorado in 2019 on I-70. On a good day (sea level) loaded with some gear and pulling the trailer, the TJ's power can be described as "adequate" at best. Once you start gaining elevation, the combo...

US Northwest June 2020 WABDR - Washington Backcountry Discovery Route

It seems like I had it at one time, as I was looking through it after the trip. My DropBox account says the 2020 WABDR OB file is empty.
