US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Welcome aboard. So maybe I won't be the only one pulling a little trailer! We're happy to have you. I spent some time in VA and WV in 2019, and I thought it was beautiful country, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. Will you be starting with us in WV?

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Thanks! I'm hoping it'll be fun trip. If everyone going has the right mindset and a good attitude going into it, it'll be a great trip! Otherwise, why do it...? I know I put a bunch of vehicle requirements and rules and expectations out up front, but I've found (from experience) it makes...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

You bring up some good questions. What time do you plan on getting to the next camp? Ideally sometime later in the afternoon so we have time to get settled, eat dinner, and have some time around a campfire before turning in for the night. However, since I've never run the TAT, a lot of it...

You don't want to miss that or cut that one short. We'll make it work.

Believe me... you will not be disappointed! The only problem you will have is you will want to do it all once you start reading it!

Hopefully by then the Canadian border will be open again to allow tourist crossing. If you don't already have one, purchase the book "The Milepost" and start reading it (it is a pretty big book). Link: Home - The MILEPOST Link: About Us - The MILEPOST This is the Bible for travel into...

US Northwest I want to do the TAT (Trans American Trail) in 2021

I'm leaving from SW WA about 2600 miles away. So I'll plan to get there at least a day or two early.

US Northwest I want to do the TAT (Trans American Trail) in 2021

Sounds good. I'm planning on sticking with Sam's official TAT maps and routes to keep everyone on the same track and minimize confusion. But yes, other routes might come in handy if we needed to detour for whatever reason. I had to make the call about whether we do the Shadow of the Rockies...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

To answer Neal A. Tew's question, I guess I'd at least like folks to register who are planning on joining us from the start in WV so I'll have a headcount. When we get closer to the departure date I'll make a list of those who have posted/mentioned joining us later-on. I'll need good contact...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Yellowstone is in the upper left-hand corner of Wyoming. So we would have left the Shadows of the Rockies a long time ago and got back on the TAT before we got there. According to the TAT website (and here they're referencing going from west to east), "This trail starts in Afton, WY just 100...

US Northwest I want to do the TAT (Trans American Trail) in 2021

Is there a way to make this event show up on other region's events pages? We're going pretty much from the east coast to the west coast. At least show up on the US East region's event page?

I put GMRS on the Rally Point as our communication method of choice. Have you registered? I need someone to register to make sure I set-up the rally point correctly. Since I set-it-up, it already assumes I'm registered so I can't tell. I just noted you did. Thanks!

Thank-you for calling them "common sense boundaries". I don't think any of them are anywhere near extreme. They all come from experience. I can't believe I forgot to mention Trail Etiquette. Thanks! Those comments are perfect - I could not have stated them better. Only thing I would add...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

It would be nice if you do register, to post a little bit about yourself, your overlanding experiences, a description (and maybe even a picture) of your rig, and why you want to run the TAT. I guess I'll go first. My name is Paul, and I've been overlanding before I really knew the term...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

A lot of folks read the Overlanding magazines, are on more than one Overlanding Forum, and see all the expensive vehicles and gear and might think "I've got to have all that to go overlanding". No you don't. I've listed what I consider the minimum vehicle requirements to do the TAT (or about any...

Ok... The rally point for the TAT trip is posted! We're starting 12 June 2021 in WV and ending on the OR coast. Let's do this! Link: Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast - Overland Bound M Rose - if you would be so kind to look-it-over (the Rally Point I posted) to...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

While we can determine the exact starting date/time/place (12 June 2021 Ripley WV @ 0900), there's no way I can predict when we will arrive at a certain destination, or how far we will travel every day. Or for that matter exactly what day we will arrive at the OR coast. I'm guessing 4-5 (maybe...
