Should be fine. Welcome! We're going to have quite the adventure.

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Bummer! Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can link-up with us somewhere along the way. Thank-you for letting us know. I have elderly parents (in their early 90's), and one of my fears is something will happen to one of them right before or during our trip causing me to have to pull-out...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Thanks for your honest review! I've had mine for a few years now and have been very pleased with it. For the price, I don't think you can beat it. We will be airing up-and-down a good bit on this run. If you still don't have an air compressor yet, consider the Air Armor M240. If your...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

As an aside... I'm a nurse with over 30 years experience. Many of those years were spent in the ICU. What brings a lot of business to the ICU? What causes (or is a direct cause) of a huge amount of deaths in the USA? Alcohol. Alcohol related car wrecks & motorcycle wrecks & boating...

    Trans America Trail

Here's our TAT thread: Link: US East - Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast | OVERLAND BOUND COMMUNITY Here's where we ordered our Official TAT maps: Link: TransAm Trail – with Sam Correro There's a bunch of us going, and I don't think any of us had any delays in...

Sorry to be making it confusing; I thought I was making it more specific. Sam's map of the USA is a little... artistic.

Thanks for breaking it down! Especially by state. Them's a lotta miles we'll be drivin'.

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

I haven't made it all the way to Tuk yet (long story), so I'm just going by what I've seen in pictures of the water up there. The water seems pretty placid around Tuk. I'm sure it is weather and tide dependent, but when we were looking at a closer map, it seemed like a lot of it was more like...

I'm glad you liked the picture from Canada - western and NW Canada is beautiful. I would have gone back this year, but with COVID and the questionable ability to cross into Canada, I decided to do the TAT - the trip I've been wanting to do for years anyways. Maybe next year. Now I'm just...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Looking good! Glad you're not waiting till the last minute to get your vehicle prepped. That'll be a sweet Overlanding vehicle (not too big; not too small; should get half-way decent gas mileage, etc.). And with the TruTracs front & rear, you should be able to feel confident you can go...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

And that's pretty much the main take-home points (thanks smlobx). And all these previous posts are all good discussion points for looking at the larger picture of overlanding safety and such in general (thanks Anna). For our TAT trip though, I really don't expect us to be camping in a Walmart...

But do you have the Tembo Tusk velcro patch?

Usually folks are set up in a back far corner at Walmart. I've never seen tents set-up either, but I have seen RVs parked there. Usually folks are keeping a low profile there.

if you don't have a Tembo Tusk Skottle, then you're not a real Overlander. We won't even talk about your lack of traction boards (go MaxTrax or go home). You need the full kit, to include the Tembo Tusk carry bag (make sure it is placed in your vehicle so everyone can see it). AND you need...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Spending the night in a Walmart parking lot isn't weird to the RVing crowd. Some Walmarts allow it; some don't (hence that "RV-Parky" app). It wouldn't be my first or second choice, but sometimes any shelter in a storm.... They have bathrooms inside. Buy a few things in the store while...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

If we "circled the wagons" (or formed a big "C"), and had tents inside, or had the tent between two parked vehicles it should be fine (i.e. make folks feel more comfortable). Even folks looking to cause trouble generally won't mess with a group (especially a group of 4x4 vehicles). And if we...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

Dan Grec to me is one of the top experts on Overlanding. He took a Jeep TJ on a couple year trip from Alaska to the tip of South America (sleeping every night in a ground tent). Then he took a JK on a three year trip around Africa. He doesn't have any big name sponsors - his trips are...

US Northwest I want to do the TAT (Trans American Trail) in 2021

The Jeep and trailer do fine. It helps with the trailer being narrower than the TJ when threading through trees and rocks (the track width of the trailer is the same as my Willys). The trailer is based off a little Harbor Freight 4' trailer frame (heavily modified). The tub at the base is...
