We do have sleep sacks and footy pajamas! Great suggestions. This is one of my concerns as well since I’ve never used a heater for myself in a tent. It’s a foreign concept for me.
Do you think the heater is even necessary at all? I was considering setting up the rtt and pack and play this...
I guess it’s also important to note that we’ve never co-slept at home. We’re not a co-sleeping family, it’s never worked for any of us the few times we’ve tried it. Our daughter always sleeps in her own crib all night. And rarely wakes up unless she has a bad dream or some sound wakes her up.
Like the title says, has anybody used this particular arrangement for sleeping?
It’s been several months since we went on our last camping trip with our daughter. Last one she was barely sitting up on her own, so sleeping in the RTT together wasn’t bad. Now, she’s a crawling fiend, and she’s...
It’s true. Just try it. When you’re wearing clothes, that slows and minimizes your body’s ability to radiate heat throughout the sleeping bag air space. I’ve slept halfway through the night in my dry clothes, in a sleeping bag in 40 degree weather, was completely miserable. Halfway through the...
Sort of? It’s developed a pull to the right that has gotten more noticeable lately. There was one day when my brakes made a grinding sound and braking vibrated the vehicle for the rest of the trip, seemed to be located passenger front. Ever since I’ve had a stronger pull to the right at highway...
Yep. I have a feeling that I do actually have a dragging caliper, its a common 4runner issue, but also I DO just have bad gas mileage for all the same reasons you just mentioned on your rig. 33" tires, bad traffic, short commutes, tent on top, probably another 150-200lbs of gear all the time...
What type of mileage do you get with your setup?
I'm getting like 10-12ish around town since I installed my new tires. I have a feeling I may have a dragging brake caliper, but it still seems a bit low to me. I literally struggle to get 250 miles to a tank now. Pulled my RTT off since we're...
What size lift do you have? Also, there is no single "proper alignment". Alignments are combinations of multiple variables. I don't know a lot about them, but I do know that different shops, even different techs do alignments differently, and a lot of them don't do much. This applies to stock...
Tall skinny is the way of the future. Love it. I don't believe you can actually fit 16's on a 5th gen due to brake clearance issues, you might need to double check on that though. But 17's on tall skinny's is still a decent amount of sidewall. I'm running cooper st maxx's in 255/80/17...
You can pull off the limited trim. Some guys simply remove it completely, and spray bomb the panel behind it black. The couple of pictures i've seen of that looked a bit janky though. The other option is installing the trail or offroad trim piece in its place.
Look through...
I liked your walk around video!
Honestly, at least from what you’re saying, it sounds like you’re asking yourself the wrong question. Instead of asking “what upgrade should I do next”, try asking yourself “what is the biggest need or problem I’m feeling when we go on a trip”. Your next...
Bump because I want to know too. We're planning a trip through Ouray, CO, down into New Mexico next year, and this would be a great addition.
@Michael here's a couple of threads I found with bits of usable info. Not much in the way of routes, but there's tidbits in there. I'm sure you've...
A little suspension flex the weekend after I got the lift installed. This was much earlier this summer, post bumper trimming, lights, tires and a bunch of other stuff.
So, we went through all of that stuff. This is stuff that needs to be accessible independent of situation. Did a lot of consolidating too!
I didn't get awesome pics of what we ended up with, so here's a list of where everything ended up:
Milk crate remains, until I build some small cubby...
So, just continuing on what we started this weekend.
The next big thing we did after laying out camping gear was pull EVERYTHING out that lives permanently in the rig, and assess and re-organize. This was actually the thing that I feel was the most helpful for us. All of these pictures show...
I totally agree Lindenwood. Every time I have pulled everything out of my truck, OR pack, I've ended up putting less back in. Weird thing for me is that I had an opposite experience backpacking...I have always been a bad overpacker, until we started car camping. Now, I actually end up packing...
Thanks! Yep, I installed it myself. I only farm out alignments, AC work, or something thats stranded me, when I don't have time to fix it myself. Honestly once you get over going to town on your quarter panel with a hole saw, its not that bad.
