    Dog first aid

great thread. I haven't taken my dog out much but this sounds like something I need to put together for him for when I do. Or if anyone else brings a pup out, and they don't have anything.

    Handheld or Permanent HAM?

I just bought a mobile Icom radio and installing it my Jeep. Besides the added power and range, it's also has power as long as my vehicle has power. I also have a Baofeng HT and it's worked fairly well, but on my last trip I ran out of battery and forgot the charger at home. Fortunately someone...

    Mendocino Backcountry Discovery Trail

The North Bay group did that loop back in May. Followed the route from Overland Trail Guides. Overland Routes & Adventures Keep in mind that you can't complete the loop due to a landslide near the Eel River Campground, and will have to cut back on Espee Ridge Road. I doubt it's been repaired...

    Portable chase lights

for some reason, the link to the lights doesn't work. Also, how or where do you power them up again? You're modifying a trailer plug to the lights?

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

    Recovery Gear - Basics

I’ll have disagree on the Badlands winch recommendation. I’ve had mine for over 2 years, I’ve used it several times with myself and others, and it’s worked flawlessly. And it was fairly inexpensive too.

    HAM/GMRS

People are people and very few are going to be doing A) or B) unless your a HAM hobbyist. But most just want to talk to vehicle in front of them and aren't at all interested in the regulations. I kinda get it. I'm not a fan of e-bikes on the trails. They aren't even allowed on most state park...

    HAM/GMRS

yes, but you can program them to run HAM too. disclaimer: not "legally" but it's a common and easy update.

    HAM/GMRS

Ha! not saying they're valid/legal but they are being used. A lot. And they are cheap. crappy? meh, they seem to do the job. Also anyone can buy one of Amazon, download the software and "update" it to work on both GMRS and HAM frequencies.
