Slight progress/ update:
After three days spend flipping the tanks around the back yard , rinsing and drying then repeat x3 the POR 15 tank lining is complete. Primed then two coats of paint and they are finally mounted in their final locations on the FC. :grinning:
Once that was...
Welcome .
As far as what is run it can vary but I doubt many will be running any hard core rock climbs or massive mud bogs. Mainly run are two tracks, back country dirt roads and in general the routes less traveled during long weekends or planned weeks in the summer .
Yes there are...
face what? Oh that data mining site :grinning:.
It seems like a quality idea, not sure on the great American jerk off segment name though.
One question is what is the progress on the Michigan overland stickers (grey on black inside mount especially) ? :sunglasses:
I would say it comes down to convenience/preference. If you don't mind spending a bit longer pulling your self out with a high lift and would like to save the money vs. an electric winch why not. One could also utilize a hand come-along in a similar fashion for self recovery.
But I prefer to...
Most of the time it seems it isn't your vehicle that is stuck. Winches seem to be used more often on recovering other people that you come across that are stuck than to recover the vehicle they are mounted to.
Interesting as the new ARB jack is they overlooked the main likeable characteristic of the high lift, simplicity.
There are no seals to fail and no fluid to leak out over time and cause the jack to be useless also no delicate aluminum housing that can get caved in when run over.
Thanks . If I recall right the tanks are 16 gauge (maybe thicker) and 1x1 1/8 angle on all corners. Just a bit heavy to lug around.
Range at 12 mpg is only 426 miles, I’ll definately be hauling along a couple 5 gallon old school jerry cans.
I killed another bottle of welding gas and made up the fuel tanks. Well 95% done I need to finish the fill neck and senders then weld the tops of the tanks on. Then test them with some air pressure for leaks, line them with por 15 fuel tank sealer and be done with that part finally. 17.75...
General grabber at2's. A great tire for winter, trails and highway. Plus considerably cheaper than BFG A/T. In addition they last forever, I am at almost 40,000 on mine and still have tons of tread depth.
Don’t be to worried about redoing the body mounts. Some simple sheet metal work and rubber mounts and it will be good as new. I tend to like the cj-7 jeep polyurethane puck body mounts for vehicles that mounts aren’t available any more.
Keep in mind V-10 capable speeds and drum brakes.
A cool looking build.
These guys are a good bet when you get around to looking for tires if you are staying military tread.

Ah the joys of old vehicles.
At least consider your self lucky most of the fixes are straight forward and not chasing some electrical gremlin through 4 different fuse boxes and numerous sensors and control modules.
