Agreed there are many many nice places to visit in the UP. I forget where it is exactly but there is a nice mine tour in the south western UP. You ride a little train down in most of the way then you can wander around.
Turtled the cab and welded out every seam on the bottom. Now to finalize the fabrication and start test fitting things in the cab.
Remote hydro boost lines mocked up after many a trial and error.
And finally settled on a color . Napa metallic army green. (Top left color)
Thanks to an amazon prime day deal, I score the tires I have been after. Mastercraft cxt load e in a 305/70r16 variety. Stuck them on some old 16x10s I had sitting around . :sunglasses:
Called in some reinforcements .
4 hours of media blasting later, shinny:
Then hit the whole thing with 1.5 gallons of etching primer and it finally looks like I am getting some where.
Still some sheet metal to weld in but it’s gonna be much nicer finishing it out with out rust and junk...
Betsy is looking good.
Be careful with NDT tires on asphalt in the rain, they can tend to skid during braking. Other than that they are an extremely durable tire.

I have messed with multiple type of the split rims with my old semi. Three piece rims are the scariest, but I found once the ring is seated properly and the tire aired up the ring doesn't move if the tire is deflated a bit.
But still keep in mind the dangers of muli piece rims.
There were no super soft 4 link coil suspensions with 30 inches of travel back in the day. Just be glad there are no rubber bushings to wear out and create "death wobble" not on durable old school leaf spring vehicles.
Try letting some air out of the tires to cushion the off road...
Finally found some safer tall back but narrow seats. I only had 18 inches of width and managed to find these seats that some one had custom made for around a table in an RV. They fit like a glove and recline as a bonus.
Yep the roam jeep was interesting.
On with the my progress minimal as it may be:
I pulled the 58 impala dash out to have better access for the rust repair and reinforcement.
I managed to get the front A-pillars & door posts beefed up with some 2x2 decently thick square tubing.
Welded...
If you buy a rare vehicle, all the accessories are only limited by your fabrication abilities and imagination. Nothing cheap, fast or easy about it. But so worth it when people ask you what it is.
