    Dream Rig

I think my dream rig would change depending on where I planned to take it. I'll go away from what I think most folks are gonna say, my rig would be a teardrop style trailer. Full off road suspension, standalone battery system with solar, freshwater reserves, onboard toilet, internal and RTT...

    GPS Failure Scenario

I've been using and reading paper maps since I was able to unfold them (still can't fold them back) on our family trips out west. In the truck I keep a very detailed National Geographic Atlas of Georgia and a "back roads" map of North Georgia that I picked up our last trip up there. If we...

    Camp Lanterns

Our lantern is a Coleman Propane, takes the same bottles as the grill and lasts a long time. I have the 1000 lumen version and can't see needing anything brighter as of right now. We also carry all sorts of flashlights, headlamps and spotlight.

    Axes

My opinion: the best axe is the one you have. I bought a fiber handled axe from Tractor Supply for around $15 and have been using it as much as I need. Spent the last two days off chopping up roots around a busted water line in the yard. It's been good, I put an edge on it with an angle grinder...

The Quest for the Best Knife.

I have a plain edged Benchmade Griptilian in my pocket everyday. It replaced a serrated edged Benchmade Griptilian that I carried for many years through a few different deployments and got used as a screwdriver a few too many times. Love it, will buy another after this one. My "truck knife" is...

    Winter Car Sleeping Tips?

When I lived on Wisconsin (my first 19 years) I just kept a really good sleeping bag and a few pillows in my car. Depending on what kind of dog you have they can share the bag or use a separate bag. The important thing to remember is to put your clothes by your feet so they stay warm. Of course...

    What Overland Vehicle?

I would suggest a full size rig with at least a V8, probably an SUV to accommodate 5. I'm a little biased on the full size, obviously but to make towing a 5K trailer and toting 5 people and gear easier it makes sense. I read that and pictured a Suburban or Expedition. Others might say different...

    North Georgia Tourist Trip

Day 2 We took Tray Mountain Rd north of Helen. Stopped halfway to scout some possible future camp sites, wound up picking up trash that was there, and eased on. It was a beautiful drive, I'm glad we took the time to go off the beaten path. We just set up camp and had lunch, next up is the...

    North Georgia Tourist Trip

I appreciate it! I got the maps to work finally. I think we're going to take some back roads from Helen to Hiawassee tomorrow morning. Let me get my fix in so the missus doesn't have to hear me fuss.

    North Georgia Tourist Trip

Staying at Stone Mountain tonight. Tomorrow is Hiawassee and the Georgia Mountain Fair. Then Thursday will be Tallulah Falls. I tried a few of the links from Georgia Overland but couldn't figure out how to make it work with Gaia on my phone. I'll have to tinker with it some more. Thank you...

    North Georgia Tourist Trip

My wife and I set out this morning for a short (3 night) camping trip to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. We aren't riding any dirt but we are tent camping and eating out of the cooler for the trip. I would like to hit some trails but the boss says we shouldn't until we get some real...

    Any Preppers/Threepers?

I prep a little, not like I could or should depending on your point of view. I've had a bad habit of stashing guns and ammo but I've gotten better. I reload my own ammo and have plenty of supplies to last me a long while. The real preps I need are for power loss when we have the remains of Gulf...

    F150 Overland build

That is easily the thinnest winch bumper I've seen. I like the way it looks on your truck. For my FX4 I'm looking at a beefy Buckstop bumper with grill guard. Out of curiosity, do you know the price point that this bumper will fit in if they make a production run?

How Many States/Countries Have You Been Too?

My link doesn't seem to work but I've been to the vast majority of states except for Hawaii and most of New England. I've also been to Canada, Turkey, Qatar, Germany, and Kuwait a few times.

    New Shovel

We have a 36" water key by Bully Tools at work. It's not the strongest design I've seen and the rod has a 45* twist in it now but it still works. One good thing I can say about it is the welds are extremely strong! To twist a solid piece of 3/8" steel held at the ends by only welds is pretty good.

AEV 3.5 RS Lift- Jeep JKU

If it your only way to go, make sure you have all the parts and tools you'll need before you commit to breaking it down. It seems like every suspension job I do I get half way through and realize I need a set of spring compressors or a different size socket. Or the job goes longer than I...

RTIC Coolers. Free shipping. Half the price of Yeti

I have Yeti, RTIC and Ozark Trail 30 Oz tumblers and can't tell the difference unless I read the logo. The Ozark Trail fits my cup holders just a bit better than the other two... For my money on a cooler I'll go to Walmart or Sam's and get their version.

South Georgia here. About 20 miles north of Florida line.
