I recently traded in my F150 due to miles and space for the family. This wasn’t my first choice in vehicles but the deal I was offered couldn’t be refused. As I don’t plan on doing any major off roading in it, it still fits the bill. My goal is to be able to not get stuck in the mud and fields I...
I am looking for some roof top storage for my 2018 Ford Explorer. I don’t do any overnight camping, so not looking at a ton of gear. Mainly, I’m looking for storage for things I need for work.
I regularly need a shovel, sometimes wish I had recovery boards of some kind. Right now I have enough...
I have also been looking at all the details @sgthusk with looking to trade. I have been paying attention to whether or not it has roof rails already installed. A tow hitch seems to be the biggest thing missing, but easily done on a Saturday morning. Sadly I’ve looked at Toyota and Jeep, but...
I am looking at possibly trading for a Ford Explorer. With three kids all in boosters and car seats, I really need the space inside the vehicle. We would never do long trips in the vehicle loaded down with gear.
I am looking at enjoying dirt roads and lesser maintained state park paths...
I am looking to possibly trade vehicles soon and I’m thinking of going to the Volkswagen Atlas SE 4 Motion. I don’t need something to handle major trails. I’m doing mostly dirt roads, small township roads, farm paths and fields. Looking online, I can buy an affordable lift/leveling kit to get it...
Part of the reason I was wanting to do the box was I’m not entirely sure how long I’m going to keep this truck. Two years and this one is likely gone, if not sooner. My thought was the box could easily move to the new truck. But the c-clamp racks might do just as well. Could be easily moved to...
To answer smritte, yes it was a ‘62 Willy Truck. I had huge dreams for that truck and it fell far short. I wanted to do just what you talked about and it just wasn’t in that truck anymore. Too many things wrong with it and it turned into a horrible money pit.
To answer Lanlubber, you are...
So one of the things I’ve been wondering about doing is building a box to move in and out of my truck bed that would store all of my camping gear. When I don’t need it, I can store it in the barn at the farm; when I’m going on a trip I can use the loader and put it in the bed and strap it down...
Don’t think it rides right with a load on it. I definitely have a sway that my other 1500’s never had. And the driver’s side rear looks like it’s not right. The two piece metal cover is definitely rubbing pretty hard on one side.
I’m not going to do a ton since it is my work truck as well. It will eventually get a leveling kit and 33’s when it needs tires again. Other than that I’m thinking I’ll probably do more to a trailer for camp outfitting so I as I move vehicles the trailer will stay put. Since this truck already...
I’m looking at replacing my rear shocks on my 2015 F-150. In my searching I’ve found the replacement shocks from Rough Country actually have pretty decent reviews. Keep in mind I am not doing any heavy trails. This will be used for work use with the occasional service road or state park dirt...
The F-150 I bought two weeks ago got the first face lift in the name of overlanding. I installed some storage units underneath the back seat today. $68 shipped off of eBay. The one on the short side of the bench can quickly come out and act like a tool bucket.
Already working on putting stuff...
I recently took a new job that has landed me two amazing things. 1) I have my own truck again. 2) I will be traveling in great Northeast and Midwest overland areas (Think SW Indiana to upstate New York).
Naturally I’m really excited about this and looking into camping options. Other things I...
I’m working on putting together some tools and supplies to keep in my truck. I don’t plan on doing heavy off-road driving, just fire and service roads where I can. The truck will also double as my daily driver which will be commuting some distance at times. My furthest customer right now is an 8...
Is anyone using Topo Maps+ for navigation? I’ve just started messing with it but it has map packs that utilize USGS topo maps that list service roads and such. The map pack cost for $20 for a year, didn’t think that was too bad. Thought I’d see if anyone else was utilizing it and how it was...
Looking last night I’m thinking about doing a 2 inch leveling kit and 265/75R18 tires. I think that would drastically improve the clearance which will be nice for my work too.
Would a leveling kit be worth it for the clearance? And how would that affect my mileage. This is also doubling as my work vehicle (which is going to be putting on a ton of miles).
