My truck is new and under warranty. Not wanting to mess with that contract with a lift or tall tires I went low. I went with steel skid plates under the motor to transfer case. Less clearance so protect what you have.
If I can legally carry with my CCW permit from my state I will visit the area and spend my money. If you do not think I am responsible enough to protect myself in your state I stay away. I do make exceptions, but not many.
My understanding: wide tires for deep sand/snow. Narrow tires for mud and harder sand or sand with a bottom. On the street wide tires give you less weight per square inch, less weight less traction in wet. Opposite for narrow. A light weight vehicle, Jeep small truck needs a moderate width...
All I did with my rig today was drive it to work. No fun, but it gets the money to go have the fun. I will be ordering some of those bad sleds this week for a beach trip next month.
I have run Cooper Discoverer AT, ATR, and now the AT3 over the last 15 years. Each did its job well, good compromise tire for mud, sand, rock, and pavement. Am interested in the ST maxx however.
If you ever get to Montana go to Deer Lodge. They have a huge museum for car camping (overlanding). I was pleased to find out while we camped at the KOA in town it had been an original car camp for the area back to the 20's. Lots of history and got some ideas for our rig.
My wife and I made it to Cape Cod this summer. Not what I had expected, it was beautiful. Drove on the sand, but the birds were nesting so space was limited. Enjoyed the wildlife and the people we met. I tell folks to go and see it. Enjoy.
