When Your Daily Driver is Your Overland Rig

I teach at an Elementary school, at least the kids find it cool when the truck is muddy, dusty, or filled with goodies for camping. Adults look at me like I am three headed. Oh well.

    Noloss valve caps.

I bought a set of these from Sierra Expeditions. A great way to not lose a valve caps or at least drop one in the mud and sand. They seal if your valve core fails, so no flat tire. Less than $20..... Just remember to get plastic if you have TPMS!!!!

Vehicle / Personal Tracker and Emergency Assistance

ResQlink will be a new item for the trip my wife and I take this summer. Just an added measure of safety should it hit the fan in a bad way.

    What got you into Overland?

My family not being very wealthy always traveled by camping out of a car or van. I just kept going that way. I am glad my wife bought into the idea and we love to travel in the same manner. The 4x4 just gets us into places we either could not before, or at least with out stuck and broken parts.

    Front 2 inch hitch

Have you been pulled with it much either with a strap or winch? Is it strong and secure when you do? I like the idea of being able to put a winch on front or back, and also off when not wheeling.

    shelter tent

I am interested in getting a shelter to go with my RTT. I do not want it attached to my vehicle, so free standing is what I want. I have looked at Kelty Miranda Tarps. Anyone know if these are good, or if something is better??

    Front 2 inch hitch

Has anyone installed a high clearance front 2 inch hitch? I've looked at ones from Mobtown and CBI. I am interested in using it for either a front rack on the beach, portable winching, or recovery point as in the back. Any thoughts or ideas?

    P vs. LT Tires

If you are new to over-landing/off-roading and you may want to begin building your perfect rig. The first place I like to start is with tires, and this can lead to some confusion. Tires come in two basic classes, P-passenger tires and LT-light truck tires. Contrary to the names given the...

Factory tow point or use hitch?

I would go with the hitch receiver and a D ring in the rear. Most factory tow points are really tie down points for shipment and towing. As for your front I could not help you with a suggestion.

Biggest waste of money (let's learn something)

I owned a Dodge Dakota. Bought it on a good deal, I thought. Turns out to be a huge waste of money. Issues, problems, problems that repeated themselves. Sold it at a lost and happy trails to it. I learned.

I would learn as much as I can about that drive train and be sure I could fix the 30 year old stuff that can break and wear out on the trail.
