Had a great weekender! First, some camping at Sullivan-Green State Park (Dugger IN), then adventure through Red Bird SRA (Linton IN). Great time out with some friends!
Mine is a patch collection from the adventures in this rig. If I ever replace my ride, I would move them to a wall of honor and start fresh.
But that is me, everyone will have different goals and opinions. So my advise is pick whichever approach makes sense for you and your rig!
But most of...
I am in the same camp from the previous poster!
Generally 4-H for off pavement and 4-L when needed. It affords me a slightly better fuel economy that way, and the power when I need it.
I use GaiaGPS and it loads the maps great and is usable from my iPhone, laptop, and my Android. Makes it a bit easier to follow, even when there was no signal.
The KAT is amazing! I had a friend join us in Cumberland and we did most of Main 2, earlier this year! We are already planning a trip to do more of it later in the fall.
So my initial thoughts are…
- Good for you! Sounds like you’re off to a good start at planning
- The actual rig/vehicle (or insert whichever descriptor you prefer) is less important than the intended purpose. There is no “right”, “wrong”, or “perfect overland setup. So never let folks tell you...
I would love to meet up, but that weekend i will be at Red Bird SRA in a different part of IN. Maybe next time? I do love Interlake; it’s a great place to explore. Make sure you hit the big hill in the middle and the huge mud hole!
Follow up: Looks like I will be able to make this. You do...
Life is an adventure and the journey is what makes it worthwhile. In our “modern”, connected society I could not image a better reason to get out and explore.
Vanity plates are kind of like naming our rigs… Mine is GKWOLF to match Timberwolf! I think everyone should have a bit of fun with customization. Just makes it more personal.
I am planning with a friend a section of the KAT for the spring as well. Please let me know when you are thinking and perhaps we can all roll together!
Garvin, Barricade, and SmittyBuilt all have racks that will work for the JL with soft tops. I am also exploring my options and these are some that i have looked at.
With Timberwolf (my 2019 Sahara JLU) i am more interested in the weight capacity, since i plan to urs it for storage and awning...
I don’t know about anyone else, but we just finished up a 2 week trip through AZ. Mt Lemmon in Tucson, Table Mesa in Phoenix, Schnebly Hill in Sedona, and Grand Canyon. It was a great trip!
Today I spent installing a couple of low budget mods. Nothing super flashy, but some cool looking things nonetheless:
My OB member medallions and some color matched D-Ring isolators!
I am driving a 2019 Sahara JLU and without any mods, you will find you Jeep quite capable. Caution will be your best tool.
As far as things you actually need:
- A matching spare is essential
- Some basic recovery gear (snatch strap or tow strap, some D-ring or soft shackles, gloves, and tools...
