For a bit more explanation on lithium battery chemistry and why charging when cold is different and dangerous:

I'm guessing you didn't ride way below 0C too often or at all. Not being able to recharge below freezing is a show-stopper to the idea for us in Alberta. But, a fantastic idea as a portable power pack, backup, jump-start, so think of it as something you bring indoors for storage or to recharge...
1. Power Supply! Traditional laptops running off a brick from mains electricity (110V) wouldn't be a good choice because inverting power is expensive (both cost and efficiency). Tablets/phones running 5V USB from 12V makes it easier.
2. Replaceable batteries. Not as important when you are...
We do a lot of backpacking. Small women's down-fill bags can be found on craiglist. Seems like some folks get into backpacking and realise it is not for them. You'll be getting a good quality bag for a reasonable price with a bit of room to grow. Do get mummy shaped ones, just for being way...
Did a 4 day section of the Teton Crest Trail, late August. Got snowed in, glad we made the call to stay put and turned it into a unplanned 5 days. 10,300 ft pass and the kids were troopers.
Camp on the continental divide! There are lots of passes on the continental divide but very few where you can set up a wild camp. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rocky_Mountain_passes_on_the_continental_divide
Thanks. Just reporting overnighting was great on the ridge and no wind over the weekend was lucky and probably isn’t the norm. Limestone Mountain is the main attraction in the area so you'll get to see a few groups of quads, and hikers go by. There are trees to shelter a tent if required. The...
@Cappy410 and @vagabondexpedition, or others
Any advice for finding nice camps near Limestone Mountain? Is it best to stay next to the Trunk Road or are the places off it along the trail to Limestone Mountain. We'll be sleeping inside the vehicle, so OK if exposed, is hankering down on the...
I need help deciding on the diameter, should it be 3/4” or 7/8”?
I have a 4-door Jeep Wrangle has with gross weight of 5700lb. My friends drive a 4runner , so a bit heavier, 6300lb, and lots of folks around with pickup trucks, if that is a consideration.
So going x3 to x4 the weight as a rule...
Nice idea. Unfortunately this weekend will not work for my family. Safety moment: last year, near the lake, I got a tick bite and got very sick, it was unexpected as this area just like Alberta is meant to have low risk for nasty tick borne diseases. So take care.
Correct. I meant you would have to drive around the icefeilds through Jasper to get to the other side which shows how wild the lake really is. They used barges for logging operations and some of the logging roads are not accessible/connected via land - they go in from the lake into the valleys...
Thanks for the video. You inspired me to continue thinking about Kinbasket Lake. This lake is huge and deceivingly remote. To drive from Valemount to the other side of the lake near Golden is almost 7 hours. I was thinking of exploring the other end where you can get very close to the icefields...
Thanks @Mr.Mango for all the ideas.
A friend donated chicken wire for my upcoming trip to the Kootenays and I had to figure how to transport it home. There is only the one place to put it, just for looks .... I wonder how many people around town will wonder what the heck this is for.
I'm not too familiar with BC but I'm in planning mode to loop around through the Kootenays late August. So just doing my research, this post has some ideas that will be relevant to you: https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/bc-quick-trip-and-camping.8178/#post-133754
You will be heading...
What a trip! I’m going to give you some ideas to consider from Alberta prospective. The National Parks are stunning, but very busy, and campsites are hard to get, for good reasons, so be early, and be strategic around the weekends.
1) When heading south from Calgary towards US border, get off...
@Mr.Mango
Thanks for posting that trip here too. I read it on www.overlandcanada.com but looks like that website is gone. I wonder what happened as just a few months ago I was reading a bunch of interesting posts. What a shame such a wealth of information went puff!
Never too late to plane...
