Where was the head gasket leaking? If you have coolant in the oil, that is VERY hard on the bearings. Make sure you change the oil and filter before firing up the engine and then I would change the oil and filter again after just a little bit of running the engine to flush out any remaining...
For a daily driven / overland vehicle I've been a fan of "next size up" on the tires. Adds a little weight, but not much more strain or wear. My truck came with 32's stock, I run 33's without issue. 35's would look killer, but then we are talking gearing, wheels, less mpg, etc...
I'd invest in a set of traction boards, a shovel, a rear frame mount tow receiver and one of those D ring adapters for it and a decent snatch strap. . THAT will get you out of many situations. 2WD will get you hung up, but normally only to the point of either a quick tug from another vehicle, or...
Those should be fine. They are actually rated. Some of the no name off sore straps are not. Keep in mind, those ratings are the "working load limit" so, for the use of pulling a vehicle off an obstacle, they are good.
I have one of those endless loops. it's a great unit, lots of options. It...
Yep. I agree with all the above. Talk to a few body shops, go with the one that seems to understand what you are asking for. I'd pick up a used hatch, have them pull the corner out enough to fit a tail light in and as already mentioned, get a nice steel bumper with swing out.
Now that it's...
That's brilliant actually. Most dog groomers will take walk ins for a nail trim, but some require proof of vaccinations. Also, I'm sure if you let the groomer know what you were up to and offered a decent tip, they would be fine keeping your doggo for an extra 15 minutes.
With that said, I've...
Not a bad plan. I've also heard of folks running a small and a larger bottle jack for the above reasons. The shorter one gets in low spots, the larger one gets the truck high enough.
Why are you making this more complicated than it needs to be? Toss the worn out OEM bottle jack in the trash and get a new one that is taller and rated higher . Toss a couple of planks in with it and done.
I would look towards strip built canoes and kayaks for info. Your idea is solid, with the exception that the epoxy resin has no UV resistance, so you would need to cover in either paint or a marine grade varnish that has a UV blocker.
Another thing to consider if making suspension changes is NOT using heim joints and or "custom" suspension / driveline parts. Harsh conditions can wreak havoc on the heims and finding a replacement custom axle or what have you in the middle of nowhere can side line a person quickly.
The "long...
This, but I'll carry a pack of flour tortillas. I'll also carry a handful of mustard and mayo packets. Toss in whatever fixings you have, wrap it up, eat, carry on. I find on trips where we stop for lunch, I'm already napping on my tailgate while others are still prepping lunch..
With any IFS truck, focus on adding wheel travel and not just how much lift you will get. On my frontier, I'm only lifted about 2.5" but went from the OEM front wheel travel of just over 5" to just under 10". My ride quality both off and on road was greatly improved. I went from 32's to 33's and...
