3 weeks in BC / itinerary recommendations for a new overlander

You might want to invest in a set of maxtraxx (the cheap chinese knockoff ones are fine, you can get them for 80 bucks at Canadian Tire or buy them on Amazon) and a shovel. I would also consider an axe and/or saw of some kind, in case you have fallen trees blocking the road or track at some...

3 weeks in BC / itinerary recommendations for a new overlander

It would be helpful to know what vehicle you're driving and how much self-recovery capability you have. I did an expedition up in the Northern BC area, and I can definitely recommend some highlights and cool places to explore in that area. It sounds like you might be passing through my neck of...

Quick snap of the rig set up for camping in the back pasture last night, since it was way too dang hot in the house.

Summer Heat Camping? Yes or No?

In August! That's wild. I do love me some snow camping, though - incredibly peaceful and beautiful.

Summer Heat Camping? Yes or No?

Been camping in +35 and -15, and everything in between. Considering an ice road trip this coming winter. EVERY season is camping season. :D

    Remote soldering station

These are absolute genius ideas, especially the solder ring connectors! Thanks, Grubworm!

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

I agree about the core group thing. I don't care who leaves or comes to the hobby, I don't care if some elites look down on my trips as "not overlandy enough" because I'm not crossing international borders and gone for months, I don't care if the boys from marketing tell me I need a $100,000...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

Yeah, I was (not at all) worried too lol In all seriousness, I hope I didn't give the impression I was looking down on guys with $500,000 rigs and such. I'm not jelly or bitter that some guys can afford to drive a tricked out Tacoma with all the gucci kit while I'm fabbing side racks for my...

22 inch all terrains for sand and gravel roads only

I would buy cheapo steelies with proper sized tires on them. 22 inch wheels are excessively huge and greatly reduce your available sidewall. The problem you might run into, depending on your caliper and rotor setup, is that you might not be able to fit 16 or 18 inch wheels due to the size of the...

How to tick-off a trail leader

Interesting discussion. I've planned and led two significant group expeditions so far, although with a small number of rigs on each trip, and all of them with friends of mine, not relative strangers. While leadership styles and number of rules might vary vs what armyRN does, I definitely think...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

"Overlanding" really isn't a made up marketing word. It's a tradition that goes back a very long way in Africa, particularly, and means something specific to them. Since then, it's evolved somewhat. Although OB's definition of overlanding as "vehicle based adventure travel" may not be a precise...

    Use of AI in Overlanding

AI is definitely going to kill us all someday, so no.

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

As a fellow Ghettoverlander, I know that feel, bro lol I got your back. It's about the adventue, not spending the most money. If you're ever up around Edmonton, shoot me a PM and I can show you a couple nice little hidey hole camp spots in the area :)

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

I often say "A day spent in the woods is never wasted" This thread fairly exemplifies why Overland Bound is such a great community. It's really not about the hype and the gimmicks and the gadgets, it's about the love of adventure and the outdoors. The majority of folks here are passionate about...

    Florida Hall of Shame

I agree that a more severe/fitting punishment as you suggest would be better, but considering how often jerks like this just get off scot free, I'm calling this a win.

    Overlanding/Camping Firearm preference

Might baffle the bear, or at the least you can toss the bananas as a distraction lol. I'll stick with 12 gauge or 9mm though....

    Bigfoot

Brother, that's a heck of a story! It keeps bringing to mind a quote from Hamlet: "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

    Overlanding/Camping Firearm preference

I have an 18 inch barrel on my 870. I might try to source a short barrel for it. Currently I live in Alberta, so I don't spend as much time in bear country as I used to, so the 9mm carbine is fine for wolves and coyotes on the off chance I have a problem with them.
