    Tyre Recommendations

Firestone seem to do well in tests and they look interesting for my application . Nowhere to be found in my size in Europe at the time I changed the tires.

    Cancelled Meppen sahara training

Nice, and I will be available for this. You got a campsite in mind ?

    Dedicated rig vs. Daily driver?

It is a PITA to switch cars all the time, that is why I downsized. In Europe there are no driveways like in US, I live in a city, so to get out the car from the garage, I have to move the car it is blocking it somewhere on the street, I park the one that was in the garage on another place in...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

Met an austrian couple in a Citroen 2CV in Albania, on a beach with a very difficult access ( I went there 2 times, 1 time I bottomed out my Hilux pickup that I had at the time.) They were sleeping inside the car and using a table they found abandoned at a campsite. When they left, All...

    Tyre Recommendations

BFG's are overated. They are good, but not 30 % better than many other good tires.

    Dedicated rig vs. Daily driver?

Had 2 vehicles, too much of a hassle and cost. Got a wrangler 4xe , out of the box more than enough for the few trips I do, and I commute electric. Only 1 insurance, one set of tires, 1 service, you get the drift... Life got a lot simpler. Got a good insurance that covers a replacement...

Went for a little solo cruise today, breaking rule #1.

Some traction boards and good shovel will do nicely, before breaking the bank with lift, winch etc..

    Vehicle Opinions

I had a Landcruiser. They break down as well with age and mileage. Those who think they buy a 12 year old Landcruiser or GX 460 , do an oil change and have a happy off roading for another decade, will be in for a shock. . If you use it like the previous owner, getting kids to...

    Dog's & NOT Overlanding

Things changed. Most of the US and EU paperwork is now recognized all over and between them. Quarantine, some countries do it, like Australia, New Zeeland, but they area bit crazy. I just saw that you can't have veggies even between states inside Australia ( I can understand the...

    Dog's & NOT Overlanding

Crossing borders on land with dogs is not an issue. Mostly nobody gives a s..t. If they pick on you is not because of the dog. You are just the chosen one for that day, and if it is not the dog they would be picking on something else. Getting them on a 10h transatlantic flight or...

    Electric overlanding

I own a 4xe, not an EV, but it offers me a glimpse of what is to come. And I don't like it. Right now, if you do not charge at home, there is no cost advantage when running on gas vs electricity. Vehicles are more expensive, a lot heavier. I don't think people really appreciate the...

Bringing Jeep from USA for Overlanding in Mediterranean

In Morroco they have low sulphur diesel widely availabe, and if you avoid weird stations should fine . In all North Africa, around Med is not an issue. And visas can be extended in general, should not be an issue

Bringing Jeep from USA for Overlanding in Mediterranean

Just make sure the wheels are not wider than the fenders. Even if it is technically legal since you do not import it, you will get stopped by the police very often and can be a PITA to explain yourself non stop. It is just not worth it What ever shipping agent you will use, they know all...

    House battery on roof top?

Active cooling will be a bit difficult to weather proof. Honestly I would go a different route. You can get something like a thule roof box, even in a small one you would not believe the amount of crap you can put in one. It is secure, locked, when you park some place., or maybe spend...

    House battery on roof top?

Only drawback is temperature. In the winter sub 0, unless it is a pack with self heating is a no-no - might not be a problem if you don't plan to camp in freezing temp. In the summer it will get pretty hot too, that means that its life will be a bit shorter. Might charge slower - not a big...

    Daily driver overlanding

It is what I did. The last few years I always had 2 cars, a small Toyota hybrid for commuting and a big 4x4 for week-end trips and holidays. I live in europe, 99% of big 4x4 are diesels, so for short city trips you kill it very fast, and the fuel cost is problem here . Parking in...

    Daily driver overlanding

An LR Disco sport, is probably the most capable SUV off road, without going into true 4x4 with low range etc.. Comfortable for commuting, pretty good off road, simple coil suspension, so cheap to repair. There are simple lift kits for it.

    Let them eat SPAM!

As some of you might know, by the grace of armyRN, I received quite a big care package all the way to Europe will all kinds of SPAM, after a bitched about the fact in the few places I could find it had an outrageous price. - like 4 times more expensive than in US. So, after a few months, I...

Battery management with shore power and solar?

Alternator is a consideration, is it uprated ? with 25 amp redarc you can charge easy even big 200 amp packs. So how big is the pack you install ? Where is it ? For 50 amps you need thicker wires, ads cost, volume, you might need to run those wires in tight places. I think 50 amp...
