I still run a Yakima box. It has held up just fine over the years (and that is on the order of 10 years or so). Plenty of offroad time in there.
What you put up there does matter. For me it is sleeping bags, tent, mess kit, stove, fishing poles and a bunch of small stuff. All what I regard...
I like them well enough on my XJ that I got a set for the Suburban too.
I am going to strongly encourage Varmint #1 to put them on his XJ (currently a project).
Yep.
See Genghis Khan in Europe.
Of course you also have to ask about the folks who first crossed over the arctic to populate North and South America. They probably dragged along more of their household than did the Mongols, and without the aid of horses.
The first Overlanders are long...
Oddly enough, there are a bunch of folks whose real world experiences say otherwise.
Try looking up "Silverado won't go into 4wd ABS light on". That search also suggests there may be a similar issue with Ford F150s and Nissan Frontiers.
It is not a problem I am willing to accept. Even if...
Yes.
I do not like the integrated systems. I have read of situations such as the ABS system triggering a fault and then the computer will not allow you to shift into 4wd. That is totally unacceptable in my book. I have also read of folks who have had their computer go into some sort of...
(Raises hand)
ME!!!
The newest vehicle I own is 20 years old. I refuse to buy anything newer. I do not want the features.
The '97 ZJ I bought for The Varmints to drive has too many modern features for my taste. And guess what? Those modern features kill the battery. I bought the thing...
More folks need to read Kon Tiki and Brendan Voyage. In both voyages one of the unavoidable lessons was the superiority of the old ways of doing things, in no small part on account of their ability to be easily repaired or adapted according to needs. The Achille's Heel of all these newfangled...
That is a work of art.
Where is the build thread?
Did you do the fabrication yourself?
I love the long hood line. And the comparison to Cruella de Ville.
+1
In my experience there are far fewer failure modes in manual control than there are in automatic control. Fundamentally, automatic systems have more ways to go wrong. Just compare an automatic transmission to a manual transmission.
And then there is the matter of holding someone...
Yep!
I have seen the same world in Kali.
It is a misnomer to refer to it as a "justice" system. It is a profit system for a range of bottom feeders who we are supposed to respect.
Sometimes it is best to swallow your pride and figure out how to most easily walk away with the fewest...
Take the 6 out of Ely to the 318 and you can be driving on the route of the Nevada Silver State Classic.
I like Great Basin NP. They will let you collect pine nuts there.
If I were you I would look into bedding in your brakes. It is a process. Doesn't cost you anything in parts. You just have to find a suitable road and make the time to do it.
Do you still have any documents that would have the VIN for that XJ? I would love to see the build sheet.
ETA: I am going to guess you mean Dana 30 front axle. I have never heard of a Dana 35 front. Otherwise that was indeed quite the unicorn.
