    My Raptor needs a name!!

I'd go with something like Sage. Green, earthy, possible stripper name, known for wisdom and it makes pork taste delicious!

    Toyota Land Cruiser

Any 70 Series (pickup or troopy) that is 25 years old can be legally imported. Since the 70 series was never sold stateside it would have tremendous value once registered in the US. A left hand drive/5speed/diesel model would have most of us Cruiser enthusiasts drooling in the states. The 1998...

    Amateur Radio Problem

Be cognizant where you mount the remote head in a modern vehicle. The last thing you want is for the airbag to send a radio head towards your noggin in the event of deployment!

Guilty as charged! I've had my 03 Rubicon for 20 years and spent the first decade with it attempting to make it a long range travel vehicle. As much as I love the TJ, it is not the right choice for that kind of work, so I bought a land cruiser as well. The most boneheaded thing I ever did to the...

What is YOUR ultimate overland setup, and why?

If I could build any vehicle for overland travel, it would be one I don't have access too. Reliable, simple, effective with enough room for the family. 79 Series Land Cruiser Double Cab Turbo Diesel Manual Transmission Locked solid axles Small lift to fit 33's Bullbar for animal strike...

While preparing for a trip on the CDT, I removed my normal camping hammock from the vehicle (since I planned to sleep in the RTT) and replaced it with a compact ENO. Half way through the trip I was at a remarkable camp site. The kind of site that is on a bluff in the mountains overlooking a vast...

If you could only attend one expo this year?

Basic Dual Battery Install in a '99 Land Cruiser

February 2023 Update This system has continued to work beautifully. I would not change any part of the fundamental design after living with it for a few years. I did have issues with the Rich Solar panel. The coating on the panel started to delaminate after only 4 months of use. I figured...

    Which tire deflator gauge?

I have the analog ARB E-Z deflator kit. - It works quite well for dropping air pressure to a desired point. - It is worthless when airing back up since it must be threaded onto the valve stem to read pressure. I keep a cheap analog parts store gauge in the vehicle so I am able to easily set...

Why do 40 amp relays have 12awg wire?!

Good catch! I am not sure how I missed that detail.

Why do 40 amp relays have 12awg wire?!

You can find unpinned relay sockets and build your own harness with the proper size wire. Here is an example. Basic 4 pin relay that is being marketed for HID lighting wiring. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/morimoto-diy-relay-kit-A-RELAYKIT

DIY Portable welder/ Self powered welder. Updated 2/11

Great write up! I am definitely going to build this. How much energy do the batteries loose while welding? I guess the better question would be, how long could you weld and retain enough power to start the vehicle with your group 34 Odyssey batteries?

Poll: When you camp, do you normally have cell service?

Heck, I don't even have cell phone service at my house! When camping it seems that I have service about 1/2 the time. I generally don't use it.

It was too late when i knew i needed....

Admittedly I have very little first hand experience using a machete. The experience I do have is clearing small saplings and brush with one. I cannot imagine trying to use a machete to clear a downed tree :flushed: Can you elaborate on the technique you use to clear a typical +8" hardwood tree...

It was too late when i knew i needed....

A saw. I hate back tracking. When a tree across the trail/road I was on prevented me from continuing on I bought a Silky Big Boy folding saw. Nowadays if I anticipate several downed trees I'll also pack the battery powered Dewalt chainsaw. In either case, a saw is the piece of gear I wish I had...

    Bruiser - 1999 Land Cruiser

It's time to play catch up! 2022 was the 7th year I've had the 100. Time flies when you are having fun. Yet my cruiser is still extremely modest compared to most builds here! I've put 130k miles on the cruiser since I bought it so the odometer now read 376k miles. Last year I put 16k miles on...
