Just started, got the car, a little money, and a lot of ideas

@12C20 Right, same logic here. My entire off-road area is either beach sand or dense forest, and only once have I needed more recovery than I had (needed to use a winch on another truck when my rig slid sideways into a ditch between two paved roads). Besides that, I've never been far enough...

Just started, got the car, a little money, and a lot of ideas

@Clarisa_Rosas_Orosco For my uses, no. For some others' uses, very possibly yes. I've never been in a stuck condition where traction boards would have really helped, much. They're useful for some applications more than others, so that would be more of a use case judgment call. The items that...

The Quest for Travel, Freedom, and Adventure

Six months later... I said: "As I age, I find myself more and more divided between even bothering to try to cultivate a relationship, and trying to hurry up and get things going before the world gets too far beyond my comprehension. But in either case, the quest to find a woman who is worth...

    Going it alone, or not?

@MOAK Hearing people's experiences and thoughts on these things is always interesting. I find that most people generally prefer less structure and more action, but less structure with a group generally leads to more discussion and less action. Opinions: I hate camping and dislike spending time...

What is the best piece of advice you can give a new overlander?

To build on what @Wanderlost said, if you want to overland AND off-road, either get used to paying a lot for gas and tires and the pains of driving an off-road vehicle on the road most of the time, or get a tow rig to overland in, and only unload your toy when you want to off-road. Otherwise...

    2024 RESOLUTIONS???

@Advtres I felt that one. I might be 26 today, but I'll be 27 next month, and my dad just hit the end of the road at 63 a few months ago. Any summer could be any one's last; only the blessed die of old age, and that comes with its own problems. Do what is most important to you, with the ones...

    Is Electro-Overlanding a thing yet?

@ProjectCleanSlate Interesting observations; on your digression, I think opposing the bid to end private transportation in favor of public transportation (in the name of, uh, let's call it a cleaner environment!) is the driving force for people to buy EV's, in the States. We don't want to give...

Here we go again , yet another vehicle 2012 frontier pro4x

@Smileyshaun Sweet! There's nothing like getting your first ride. I worked hard for mine, hopefully she will continue to appreciate the help you've given her in starting off right. Can't make out the model, but I see Toyota on the grille. Old Toyotas kinda looked like Saabs.

    Is Electro-Overlanding a thing yet?

@roots66 Except for the part where the SSR had the big legendary image of the El Camino standing before it as America's classic pickup-car, and that kind of gave the SSR something to stand on... it sure didn't have stood on its own! it was a mechanical menace and there's a reason that there...

    Is Electro-Overlanding a thing yet?

@roots66 Sadly, for as impressive as the spec sheet may be, the form factor seems to me like it would be the truck's biggest sales killer. Weird angles and strange geometrics aren't ideal for mounting things like roof racks and tents, or for carrying neat drawer systems or decks or slide-outs...

Show me a Road Sign.....really any sign...

@roots66 That cake becomes vital if you get stuck in the snow. If people won't stop to help, you can lure them over with the cake.

Here we go again , yet another vehicle 2012 frontier pro4x

@Smileyshaun Tell her not to look a gift horse in the mouth, she can buy her dream car with her own savings. Nobody ever gave me a free car without thoroughly wrecking it first! Jokes aside, I hope you find somebody who needs it, if you don't! Those are really tough little trucks.

Here we go again , yet another vehicle 2012 frontier pro4x

That Frontier would make a great 18th birthday present to said not-so-little one... just a thought. I'm actually in the market for a light truck; if I was a few thousand miles closer and a few thousand dollars richer, I'd give it a good close look.

    Tire Talk 2023

@MidOH There tends to be two schools of thought amongst the tire shoppers. On one hand, you've got the "tried and true" group that prefers old brands and old products that have been improved gradually over the years, and have been in the game for a long time. On the other hand, brands recent...

    Nature Photos

@North American Sojourner Magnificent. The more I go out and look at it, the more I remember that there's nothin' wrong with God's green world; it's people that are causing the problems. But then, people to share the good things with make it all worthwhile.

    Tire Talk 2023

@No Known Boundaries I'll agree, just from looking at the tread pattern, I always knew KO2's (and most of the rest of BFG's on- and off- road tires) were garbage. I need lateral and diagonal grooves, not straight cuts and water traps. Not going to hate on BFG, but I could spin BFG's street tires...

Build/activities thread: 1989 Raider, 2010 Sequoia, and my other stuff.

@irish44j Now this is the good stuff, right here. Finally found another soul with a 2-door rig. Our needs are different, but our challenges are the same. Short wheelbase vehicles for life! Always been a sucker for square body Mitsubishis; Montero, Pajero, Raider, whatever you please, I'll take...

    Alpha Build

@Taneo22 Looks like a good setup. It's too bad that the Hummers from back then tended to be unreliable, or you can bet a great deal more people would be using them. Truly awesome off-roading capability, just not a fan of the tiny windows on those or the FJ Cruisers personally. If yours hasn't...

Hood / Bonnet Net yea or no?

To throw out a wild idea here, who's to say you couldn't add some braces to reinforce the hood? If your engine is big, it might require careful placement in order to clear some components, but it doesn't seem like it should be impossible, if you can weld or know somebody who can. The more...
