    @roots66 They weren't.

Show me a Road Sign.....really any sign...

@roots66 Once I answered the door in the middle of the night with one hand on my holster and it was the sheriff's office.

    US Southeast Annual Uwharrie Run

@triciabeaver Yep, we're not picky here! This is going to be a long event with plenty of short convergent visits. Come when you can, leave when you have to - we keep it loose. No picky whiners about who has to be where in line, or even who leads. Somebody picks a trail, whoever wants to...

Seems like it pretty much does what it needs to do. Let us know how it holds up in the long run!

    US Southeast Annual Uwharrie Run

For those who haven't been informed, I am expecting a group of acquaintances to attend more or less "loosely". There are prospectively three of them - Ben, Chris, and Will - and if my past experiences with them is to be applied predictively, they will likely not stay with our group for long...

Oh, tell me about that one. I used to keep my spare tire on the roof (when this was my only truck), I'm sure that box is even worse. Getting boxes that are big enough to store what you need, plus a little extra, and small enough so that it's not all rattling around loose in there, is the key.

Sheesh. I knew we had coyotes at the beach, I didn't know we had them in the mountains too.

Personally, I'd use straps. The top of that box is perfect for straps, and you can stow some extra straps inside with the other items, in case you should ever happen to need them.

@danwyandt Not my type of work, but I legitimately know someone who might be interested. If you're actually looking, I can see if she's for hire at this time.

I'm planning on having to work Sunday, so the earliest I'll be able to arrive is Monday afternoon. Unless I get fired, that is!

Definitely looking forward to this year's trip. Hopefully the temperatures will be lower this time around, going later in the year.

@Thomas Hastings Cool, I've never heard of that. I imagine snow falling off a tree onto a slope could result in that, too. Ain't this world a work of art? I think God made physics cause this cool stuff just to be awesome, and may be so we can see how physics operate.

@Thomas Hastings What was the thing in the middle that started rolling to make that snow wheel?

We have one of these on the East Coast too. Looks like fun, but I'd rather have a Samurai for the 4wd.

    Help, I have Jeep envy

@tjZ06 I stand corrected; I failed to specify "tires being equal". Unironically, my best sand-driving experiences were all on road tires, because deep treads tend to dig in loose sand, whereas (dimensions being equal) shallower treads float somewhat better (hence the wide, shallow paddle treads...

    Help, I have Jeep envy

@tjZ06 Now that sand rail looks like a lot of fun. It also exemplifies the fact that a purpose-built off-roader isn't a comfortable long-distance travel vehicle. And your point about the built JLU is a precise example of the reverse; it was not the only truck stuck in the sand that I passed...

    Help, I have Jeep envy

So coming back to this topic 6 months later, anybody have new thoughts and considerations? We pretty much covered every thing before; large dimensions (wheelbase included) are good for overlanding but bad for off-roading, straight axles and dependent suspension are good for rocks but bad for...

@DangitDad SR5? Boring? Vanilla? That's like calling an unused high-quality sketch book uninteresting, my guy! This is a necessary material in order to produce your art.

@Thomas Hastings I might make the Old NC 105 trip some time, may be this year or next year. Seems like there's great scenery out there.
