Wow at least you got out there. Only thing I did was wash the rig in my driveway (again).Took the XJ and the kids and met up with a buddy (Pro4X Frontier) in the Ouachita National Forest after his return from a deployment and spent 4 days/nights tooling around and camping in different spots every night.

I’ve had them mounted on the cap on my old truck, then took them off to get the cap bed lined and then remounted them on the cap and put it onto my new truck. So all in all have been on there for about a year, no issues.
Finally got my tough guard bug and window deflectors.

The Aluminum has oxidized, so the dullness won't be going anywhere. You could bead blast it and that'd take the surface passivization off, but it'd just look like that again in a few years, depending on where it gets driven at. Personally I'd just leave it...Cleaned up my rear diff cover. It was dirty with road grime. Anyone know how to get the shine back? I used a degreaser and just some car soap and water.

Ah oxidation, ok you're right. It's very hard to clean. Definitely leaving it then. Thank you!The Aluminum has oxidized, so the dullness won't be going anywhere. There are ways to get that sheen with AL and to keep it, but it generally involves clearish anodize, and it still ends up being a bit of a different color than bare polished/machined AL. Relatedly, how does the AL cover hold up on the trucks? When we replace the G80 in our truck with something less awful, I was going to swap the cover out as well, but most ones for the trucks seem to be aluminum.Ah oxidation, ok you're right. Yeah I was kinda hoping to get the sheen back, but didn't know oxidation would play a part. I'm ok with it getting dingy over time. I keep telling myself, it's an 02, no worries. I believe it's holding up well. I replaced it because it developed a pin hole and fluid was almost near gone by the time I noticed. Apparently it's a know issue and GM has since developed a kit to address the pin hole issue. While it was in the shop I had them replace the really bad looking original cover with this one. This B&M cover is bigger which I guess allows more cooling, etc. There are ways to get that sheen with AL and to keep it, but it generally involves clearish anodize, and it still ends up being a bit of a different color than bare polished/machined AL. Huh, was the pinhole in the diff cover itself?Yeah I was kinda hoping to get the sheen back, but didn't know oxidation would play a part. I'm ok with it getting dingy over time. On the actual transfer case housing itself. Here is the type of kit they made to address the known issue - Sonnax Transfer Case Pump Plate Kit - 100246-02KHuh, was the pinhole in the diff cover itself?
