What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I swapped out my key lug nuts for normal lug nuts on my Tacoma. Hopefully, no one steals my wheels!

Having keyed lug nuts on your 4x4 was brought during one of my local 4x4 group meetings. The bottom line is if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and you have to change a tire, you want to minimize the issues you may have. For instance losing your key. Also, I guess there have been cases of vehicle roll overs where tools, including the key flying out of the vehicle. Anyways, since that discussion it has been on my mind so, I made the change.

What does the Overland Bound hive think about this?

Did the same with my Jeep after stripping a key. Hammered on the appropriate sized socket to spin off the stripped keyed lug nut. Thought to myself, self, what? Who said that...? Um, where was I...oh yeah, that would not be fun out on the trail. Replaced the remaining keyed lug nuts with regular nuts.

So today was a good day working on my Bronco... then turned to do-do when “The Adventure Machine” added another tick to make me remember her name.

I started off bright and early heading to Kennewick Washington to meet up with @PNW EXPLR. The goal was to finish my winch cradle that I started last well. Mike did an excellent job covering up my mistakes and made my project look amazing.


I didn’t get any pictures of the bumper back on, those will come tomorrow.

Then half way home (70 miles from home and 4 miles from the nearest tow ) my power steering pulley let loose at the same time a coolant hose ruptured, and all this started with my ignition control module taking a dive... luckily @KRose was able to come to my rescue and Geico will be towing it home for me tomorrow.

Moral of the story... I don’t have one... the “Adventure Machine” ticks on.

Changed up the Subaru camper's cabinet a bit. The wood was cracking so I just went full-tilt, ditched the previous carpentry, and welded up a nice little tube steel frame for it (the doors are currently missing):

And also did a resin pour that doubles as a cabinet light + interior light!

Sliced the sidewall on the front passenger side front tire in the first week of ownership and thinking to myself dang it might not be able to afford this lifestyle.

Added my trail kitchen, skid plates, inner fender liners and fluid check/oil change. Unfortunately my Dometic is on backorder so the cooler it is for now.

My wife bought a car and the first thing I noticed was that it had keyed lugs on it. We looked all over the car and no key. I sent her to Discount Tire to have them removed and replaced. I don't see a need unless you are in a really high crime area. In that case, Don't drive anything nice unless you have a way to secure it properly.

finished the battery box for my camper shell....plywood box to fit in front of wheel well with a 35ah agm battery, usb ports, 12v recepticle, and ext cord to power the switch box in the shell which has switches for lights, onboard water pump, ext lights and 12v fan. everything including the battery and lights prob came in right at $100. not bad. now i'm set up to take the truck camping in places i couldn't take my trailer. also...wife pisses me off, i have options!

Your looking good Grubby ! Where is the battery - in the plywood box ? Ahhhh some SPAM tonight with some mac /cheese and some baked Okra with butter and garlic sauce....ummmmm

the battery is in the box forward of the wheel well in the 2nd pic. i made a plywood box 13"x8" to fit in the gap and hold the battery and additional plugs so i can charge phone and stuff up front where my head is. i'm going to run a 50w solar panel up on the cargo basket to charge the battery. the wife and i generally take our camp trailer, but we are looking at doing some fast moving trips later and want to leave it at home and go fast and light, so this is it.

oh yeah, mac and cheese goes great with SPAM...as i had posted months earlier, i finally got the wife onboard with SPAM and after the lockdown, she's pretty good eating it now, so i can get back to experimenting with more recipies

Ah thanks, glad to have shared the ideas. Just waiting to go out again on a trip to see what adjustments need to be made to my setup, if any. So far, just sitting in the driveway being a taxi driver for the family lol.

I'm sorta heading the same way with my LRD2 rig. I gave my Scamp to my daughter who left here with it today on her way to Organ. Now all my trips and camping will have to be in my rig. I have most everything I need for that way of camping. She was thrilled to get the trailer since she has been living in her van for the past 3 months. I'll miss it but she needs it more than I do. She didn't have any electrical hook up's for a trailer and didn't have a hitch receiver either so I bought them for her and got my mechanic to install it for her.

that's great being able to do that for your daughter and i'm sure she appreciates the upgrade from her van...plus she's a redhead with daddy's eyes, can't say no to that!
