Good question - in our case it's a combination of assuring retirement, and enjoying life now. So - we (pre-pandemic) had successfully reached the point of a rotation - work a year and fill the piggybank, travel a year. So 2019 was 10 months in Australia and 1 month in SE Asia. Obviously the pandemic has put a dent in that, however all being well we'll make a "big trip" this year.

I always say this as well. I have to take a sales position while I am working on getting everything up and running business wise here. Sucks I know....but alot of crap happened during the pandemic for us. I have to get some things paid off and we are back on track with fully self sufficient home based work.

Life definitely happens and I have no doubt you have your eyes on the prize, and you are moving forward intentionally towards some well defined goals you've set. This is time well spent. Proud of you guys. Keep fighting the good fight. ~ E

Laundry at camp. It's a thing when you are overlanding for more than a weekend or week at a time. Sure you can find a laundromat and honestly there are many decent solutions out there.

To be honest we don't carry many clothes. Each one of us has a backpack that ALL of our clothes for this global overland trip fit in. So we run out of clothes fairly quickly especially since we spend most of our life outdoors.

We're hard on our things and our community of folks who follow us on social know this. So we're often asked the question about how we take care of the "little things" like laundry.

This is our answer to that question:

good post....laundry is definitely a big thing to deal with on extended or full time travels.
years back, a friend and i designed a fairly large hydroponics system in a shipping container. we needed to kill mold, bacteria, etc without using chemicals that would harm the plants. we came across ozone (O3). we bought a ozone generator and bubbled the O3 into the reservoir and it killed the mold, algae, bacteria without chemicals. the biggest cause of stinky laundry is bacteria from sweat, etc. well, i see that there is a unit out there that produces O3 and is used for laundry and apparently doesnt even need soap.
this link shows a home unit sold on amazon...but it might be cool to use on long trips. if you have a container of water and bubble the O3 in it, all you have to do is put in your clothes and the O3 kills the bacteria and stuff pretty quick and then all you need to do is wring the clothes out let them dry. seems like it would certainly save on water and be pretty quick. also, no detergent to store.
this one uses 45 watts of power, so it could easily be ran off of a small cheap inverter....

That is really interesting grub. I know nothing of that technology. So this is the first time I've heard of it. ~ Eric

Trying to talk to banks on behalf of a loved one who you take care of their finances from a different country is a trying nightmare.

I'm about to throw my phone at the foot of some horses in the field where I'm overland camping in Mexico so they can trample it.

I knew logistics on this journey were going going to be difficult, but this process is hair-pulling, soaking in gasoline, and lighting on fire kind of frustrating.

On hold for 10 minutes, talk to one representative and then get almost to the end where we're actually going to get what I need done, then get put on hold and another person comes on the line who has no idea what we were just talking about. He has no notes from the 10 minute conversation that I had and we have to start all over. We talk for another 10 minutes and he finally figures out he has to transfer me to a "specialist" who is supposedly able to help me.

This is where I'm at now. Yes, I'm still on hold and if it weren't for Brittany trying to keep me calm I don't know what the outcome would be...

...and, if you're unfortunate enough to get into one of those calls where they ask you to "say in a few words the reason for your call" it's worse! There is presumably an expectation of a particular accent, which I don't have; I end up saying why I'm calling in a number of accents - Texan, Australian, Irish, Scottish, RP, ... and none works! Drives me round the bend...

Someday we hope to visit most of what we can in the world. However Canada and the areas north of the USA will be many many years from now if our current plan is executed. We have an iPhone 12Pro with an Osmo Gimbal
We have 2 DJI Osmo Pocket cameras
We have a DJI Drone which we don't use much
