Interesting sites mentioned so far, but I agree, the over-arching flavor of impending doom and being ready for TEOTWAWKI on some sites doesn't encourage me to stick around.
I get an awful lot of solid info that seems to stick better in my mind from books, too, as mentioned above. I posted a list in the
Books/Reading Material thread with a mess of titles, some by Creek Stewart, some by David Canterbury, others not so much just survival but about bushcraft in general, wilderness, and being outside. Some fiction titles there, too, that often help in understanding the mindset of being outdoors for longer periods of time than many are used to.
It's getting harder to find good resource sites that aren't thinly disguised stores. Though some commerical sites do offer good articles on the outdoors and camping.
I have a ton of links on home-building, solar, and off-grid living, and on photography and art, and on GMC and Duramax (of little to no interest to most here), but very little really just about overlanding in particular.
There are, though, a few other sites on expedition and overland style travel with articles and forums, like:
-
americanadventurist.com
-
expeditionportal.com
-
ih8mud.com
-
overlandexpo.com (more about the Overland Expos that happen each year in East and West US)
-
overlandjournal.com
I get a lot of info, too, from Pinterest, which allows you to save (Pin) stuff to your own boards for later reference. I keep boards there on everything from camping and camp recipes to campervan mods, to chuck boxes/camp kitchens, solar, survival, art, architecture, photography, etc. I refer back to them all the time for tidbits of info and images about things that interest me.
