Question for the group: currently have a pickup with topper/canopy that the dogs ride around in in the bed in a fairly large crate/kennel with foam floor. With it getting colder, we want to keep them warm while on longer road trips, what do you recommend for a heat source for them? I’ve seen mr heaters used for camp tents but if I got that it would be mounted and unattended while driving and I don’t want it to cook them. Other option I was thinking about doing was an electric one hooked up to an inverter. Thanks!

You could insulate 3 walls of the crate, leaving the rear-facing side open for air. Then maybe a 12v heating blanket/pad on the floor of the crate, under the foam pad or another heavy blanket (think moving blanket). They're dogs, so they'll likely be okay without the wind-chill factor. HTH

I lay out a 12 volt blanket and the dogs are cozy,

I would look into a heat exchanger... they tap into your cooling system and work just like the heater inside the cab.
