Top of the beautiful alpine county

Ok gang here is another fun trip. In and back out but I must say the view from the top is simply amazing!!!
From the top of this trail you can view all the alpine lakes. Lake Alpine, Spicer, Utica and Union.

Lake Alpine can be seen in this shot along with Utica and Union. It is the Highest road I have found yet on the highway 4 corridor.

Is there a place to set up camp or is it more of day trip in and out? I would be traveling in a Toyota Highlander, will that make it?

It's steep in some areas but the highlander will make it np. Yes you can disperse camp.

Here are some other views from the top. Some of these are after a hike and scramble to the end of the ridge to the left. You can see the Bear Valley ski area, Salt Springs Reservoir, and the Mokelumne River valley.

One of your pictures looks like it's showing the ski area. I didn't know they had a fire up there. I've tried to take the road heading down to a valley but it was gated last time I was up there. Do you know if that's still the case?

That was the Donnell fire, over on 108. It was behind Spicer Reservoir. It was mostly contained when I was there in early September, but you could still see a couple plumes of smoke off to the south.

If the road you mentioned is the one you can see in the picture of the ski area, that just goes to the bottom of Grizzly Bowl, so not too far into the valley. It's always locked.
