Looks like a pretty nice tool roll, a little on the pricey side for me until my old bag wears out but I do like it.Anyone ever seen the Yukon 46 atlas tool roll? Just came across it and is pretty slick

Thanks. It's kinda weird out here. I have tried to connect but all I get is crickets. I am gunna give it one more try this weekend. I am going to spend a week up in the U.P. and explore solo if I have to.Paint job looks good. Did you ever find any groups out there to explore with or at least get some info from for places to check out?

I have a BF-F8HP. Basically a 5r but a little more power.@JL Lou, are you running the Baofeng handheld radio? If so what model and how do you like it? Saw these and didn't know how good they are or why you would need 5, but they are cheap...

I have a UV5R, its an OK radio and works well for communication on the trail. The biggest thing with Boafengs (and most Chinese radios) is the mics seem to be quiet. Otherwise I really like having a cheap radio for field use.@JL Lou, are you running the Baofeng handheld radio? If so what model and how do you like it? I have the UV5R as well...Ditch the stock antenna and you can greatly improve not only range but signal quality.I have a UV5R, its an OK radio and works well for communication on the trail. Yeah I have tossed around the idea of getting a better antenna for mine. But I don't see much point as I have a good mobile and base station already. About the only time I think I might use my Boafeng is for scouting a trail on foot ahead of a convoy, or pulling out winch line and rigging. For that I probably won't be much more than a few hundred feet away.I have the UV5R as well...Ditch the stock antenna and you can greatly improve not only range but signal quality.

The Baofeng is the hardest radio I have to program manually and it’s also my cheapest radio. My easiest radio to program is my Yaesu FT-2900 (which is now a ft-2980).I just now started reading the material for the ham test so I know about zero when it comes to these radios. I just saw it was 5 of them for $100 so i thought i would ask. Once I get my license I don't see myself getting too deep in the rabbit hole that is ham radio so something middle of the road would be fine by me. On a side note... IT'S ALIVE!!!

It only took a few months longer than it should have, but it's not like I really needed it or I was going on any trips. Once everything was buttoned up and fluids topped off I turned the key and it fired right..... no it didn't, I turned the key and it went click click click cuz the damn battery was dead. So after putting the battery on charge and about 30 min of picking up tools and random crap around the garage it finally fired right up and ran like a dream!
Time to move it out to the shop and start some fab work.

That's kind of how I feel about it. Get a mid range handheld and it will probably do everything I would ever want. I still know a lot of people that run CB but seems like the OB crowd is moving towards Ham. I really only want to have trail comms for when I'm out with a group so if I get my ham license with a middle of the road handheld and have a cb I think I'll be good.Glad it’s alive. Can’t wait to see it.
I have the cable to program the baofeng, and the software. Super easy. You have to have the cable to add the names, otherwise you just get the numbers.
I would only buy one. I won’t permanently install one anytime soon. I will have to get my license and really like it before I put money into it.
Like Mike Rose said, The handheld works fine for what I want to do with it.

you might want to look into the price of an HT compared to a Mobile unit... The Yaesu FT2980 is $130 and covers all of the 2 meter band. Its 85 watts of power, about the same size as a Cobra 25 LTD, and has a cat 12 mic connection... and is wires x digital coms at the push of a button to link to the nearest wires x repeater. With 200 instant access memories, flipping through them with the push of a mic button is easy. That's kind of how I feel about it.
