I guess it's all relative. 36k for an aluminum truck camper is pretty absurd. 30k for a 6ft "offroad" camper trailer is pretty absurd. 4k for a roof top tent is pretty absurd. So maybe a hybrid hard sided roof top tent for 20k isn't all that absurd.

It's people on this forum and other forums like it that are creating the market for more and more absurd pricing. Not being negative, I just find it amusing what is and isn't considered absurd.

I guess that absurdity truly is in the eye of the beholder...no, wait...that's something else.

Looks to be a startup. I will stick with my Alu-Cab. Need to put on down payment on them...warehouse is empty. Looks to just be a CAD image. They are so expensive because they are impervious to Covid-19.

Absurdity of price and all the add-ons aside, I'd love to see someone build a normal carbon fiber tent... something in the Baroud space. I'd definitely pay more if someone can get a truly durable full size hard shell tent into the regular RTT ~125lbs territory.

If you go to the spec sheet and look up all the accessories (lights, inverter, battery, heater) you come up with several thousand dollars you can take off. Now were talking around 15k for something that is foldable, hard sided and has a floor hatch. You can permanently mount it and access from inside your vehicle. There was a company making a pop up like this for SUV's with canvas sides. Don't know the price but i'm sure it was expensive.

The engineer in me is impressed, the miser in me is walking away. I have had a similar design to this on my sketch pad for years using fiberglass. It would be nice to be able to work with carbon fiber.

Given that the shells of the hardshell tents are crap sprayed glasfiber polyester resin crap and cost 50$ in fabrication, the prices they ask are absurd...
It's also absurd to ask 1500$ for a rock heavy cloth tent only half the development stage of a proper trekking tent just because they put a sandwich plate under it so you can mount it on the roof.

If they were able to put all the crap in it and keep the weight and if it's not leaking and rattling and if all is billet aluminum and carbon.
Then it's not absurd its just expensive.

My opinion.

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment...

Au Contraire, Autohome fiberglass tents are ALL HAND LAID fiberglass shells, top and bottom. It's even stated as such in their brochures/website.

Just lift up the mattress in an Autohome fiberglass tent and you can see the quality of the lay up. It is outstanding!

ALL of the copies, and JB is no exception .............. are all built up with a chopper gun. Even cheaper are the ABS shells on a lot of tents. ABS is not UV friendly, and just where is that RTT sitting? On TOP of your truck.

IMHO, NOTHING is built tougher than an Autohome hard shell RTT. They have been building them since the late 50's. Everyone is made in Italy ........... no China BS here!

I would be willing to bet the Eezi-Awn Dart can give an Autohome some competition on toughness.

Well that is absurd, my bet is it never happens looks like a real nice 3d mockup and not much more. Too much money for what you get, mind you if they make a go of it good on them

And I thought I was pushing the limits saving up for a AT Habitat camper.
I can’t see all that many takers for such a boutique product at that price.

What person who has 20K extra to just drop on a RTT is actually going to be sleeping in a RTT??? They seem to have forgotten about that little thing called "target audience"!
