Prior to heading out on my last trip, I picked up the Stanley Mountain Vacuum Coffee System. I wanted the 1.1 quart, but it's apparently been discontinued, and I wasn't able to find one anywhere. They are still making the 17 oz., so that's what I got.
It's a really cool little unit. When assembled, it's about the size of a normal thermos. It breaks down into a pot for boiling water, a French press, thermos, and two cups. Also, the lid of the thermos is hollow for storing coffee grounds.
It worked very well, and I am very happy with it. The coffee was fantastic, and actually tasted better than out of the coffee pot at home. One thing to be aware of is that the handle on the boiling pot has a plastic clip in it which locks the handle in place. I've read about some people having problems with it melting, and that Stanley did something to correct it. Still, I kept that side of it slightly off-center from the heat, just to make sure. I had no problems with the plastic melting or even getting hot. It's great for one person, and I expect it to work just fine for two. I initially was concerned that it would be a time consuming pain to make coffee twice for two people (which is why I was trying to find the 1.1 quart version), but it's fast enough that I'm pretty sure doing it twice with this is still faster than the percolator type we were using before.
