I've always been told you should never do these things alone, just never by anyone who has.
I love going out alone with my dogs. I have been stuck by myself and either had to dig myself out or wait for a lucky passerby. However, every time I got stuck, I was knowingly taking some grossly unnecessary risk. I now not only have mucb better gear and knowledge, but also a lot more restraint than in those days. So, I dont have any big issues exploring by myself, though I am not going to go out looking for trouble.

I like going solo when the terrain permits, next option is co pilot or having one other vehicle. Having two people provides the extra safety and the ability to split up tasks if need be.

I like them all. While there is saftey in numbers, I sometimes like just being off alone.
