SoCal to Austin

Planning a trip at the end of the year out to Austin as I am looking to potentially move the family out there for work. I plan on driving my rig because airplanes are just boring and I really don't want to rent a car. So my question is what are the best places for some nice dispersed camping somewhere between AZ and Texas so I don't have to drive it all in one day?

Look into driving through Borrego Springs to AZ.

Once you hit Texas you're pretty much screwed for dispersed camping. There are spots but they are few and far between. Most of the camping is either private camp grounds or parks. There is stuff all over New Mexico though. That's our most common destination when wanting to get out of Austin.
