Small container bleach won't destroy?

I put bleach in a small 1 ounce dropper bottle and packed away in my camp kitchen crate. I did this so I could disinfect water or a container if needed out in the bush. I went to use it last week and the bottle had broken down like it was disintegrating and the bleach had leaked out. I thought the bottle was nalgene but onlien they look like they are LDPE - so is this not a good container? I liked it because these little bottle let you count the drops of bleach which is helpful to disinfecting different size containers.

Guess I could use a little glass bottle but then would bleach destroy a dropper attached to the lid?

Medicinal droppers shouldn't disintegrate depending on what the squeeze bulb is made of but I'd leave bleach purification for home emergency and water storage , There are better options out there for on the go filtration.

I'm not worried about filtration, this is for disinfection of water and other eating/drinking items. How are those tablets better than bleach?

Look on the bottom of your 1 gallon bleach bottle. There will be an abbreviation for the type of plastic used. Find an appropriately sized container using the same materials (probably LDPE)

Also, and forgive me for making an assumption here but you didn't mention anything about dilution. For regular disinfection, concentration should be something like 1:20 - 1:30. A stronger 10% solution will even kill fungus spores. No need to pack and work with straight bleach, it just ruins material.

Glass bottles with glass droppers work fine. We have one that sits in the bathroom for months and months without any breaking down of the only non-glass part - the rubber bulb. We are on a dug well, when it gets low because of the drought, we put a few drops on the toothbrushes since the bathroom is the only water source that doesn't have a filtration\sterilization system on it.

Carry powdered bleach/ bleach granules and reconstitute it when you need it. Best of all worlds.
