So I use the Garmin InReach satellite tracking device when we are remote camping and i want to send the file to some friends.
It asked me if I wanted to format the file in a KML or GPX format and I'm wondering which is best.
I guess you also have to get some sort of app to open the file and if someone could recommend one to me I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
BTW this is the trip we recently took in Namibia...

Eddie, GPX is more widely supported than KML, so that would be my recommendation, but it really depends on what software would be used by the recipients to open it. It wouldn't hurt to export both formats and send them both files. For mobile devices, an app I have had good success with is ViewRanger which is available for both Android and iOS. For an online PC with a web browser, CalTopo.com works well for importing files and viewing them.

Cheers,
Michael
